What is a trimmer

There are 3 types of popular trimmable component, resistor, capacitor and inductor. Ls are not adjusted with screwdrivers, but with non-magnetic tools, eg a plastic hex driver.

However when the term trimmer is used it pretty well always means a preset capacitor, not the other 2. Tabby (talk) 15:46, 31 December 2007 (UTC)

Merger proposal

That would be pretty silly, considering that much of the article (including all refs) concerns resistors, not capacitors. The article is about a class of components designed to be adjustable for purposes such as calibration, etc. regardless of what it is they're adjusting. --Junkyardsparkle (talk) 05:48, 13 July 2015 (UTC)

Variable and preset

@Sbmeirow: You said in your edit summary that "you removed the opposite of what you said in your comment, the arrow drawings were removed". That is exactly what I intended. Trimmers are presets, and are therefore not represented with arrowheads on circuit drawings. SpinningSpark 14:26, 13 April 2020 (UTC)

Lack of response doesn't automatically mean anything, other than I haven't replied. Even if I was on Wikipedia, it doesn't automatically mean that I finished everything that I needed to do while I was online.
