Requested move 9 December 2021
- The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
The result of the move request was: Moved. There is only one policy backed argument made: WP:COMMONNAME. Official names, on their own, are not ipso facto guaranteed to be the article title. In this case no one has made a clear argument that AITC is the most common name used in English language sources, therefore the move request is accepted. — Coffee // have a ☕️ // beans // 23:06, 6 January 2022 (UTC)
All India Trinamool Congress → Trinamool Congress – All India Trinamool Congress is its official name but not common one. The party is unanimously known as Trinamool Congress or TMC. I never knew that the party's official name has an "All India" before it although I don't live under a rock. If you google "Mamata Banerjee party" and go to the news tab, you will not even a single source addressing the party not as "Trinamool Congress". So keeping WP:COMMONNAME in mind, we should execute this move. Also I found no guidelines in Wikipedia:Naming conventions (political parties) that conflicts with this. - Neutral. There are strong arguments in support of both versions. — kashmīrī TALK 14:49, 12 December 2021 (UTC)
- Official name (AITC). Reason: [1] AITC is its official name (the ECI also uses this name), [2] The ECI has recognised it as a national political party, [3] In terms of vote share, it is currently the third largest political party of India. — Diptyajit (talk) 19:50, 12 December 2021 (UTC)
- Strong Oppose: I am not a veteran in this context, but I do think that I have enough common sense to talk about this matter. To be honest, the move for change sounds quite ridiculous and hilarious, as well as extremely exasperating. First of all, neutrality can not be maintained by the name change, because by changing the name, the prefix 'All India' will be removed from 'Trinomool Congress'. Now AITMC is a recognized national party with presence over a large number of states of India including- Bengal, Tripura and Meghalaya, so by removing the prefix the dignity of this national level political party is defamed and vilified, which is hampering the neutrality of this article in the true sense of the term. In addition to this, this political party is currently the 3rd and the joint 5th largest party in the Lok Sabha as per percentage of vote share and no. of seats respectively. Again, TMC is nothing but the abbreviation of 'Trinomool Congress', so the same is applicable for this title. As per my point of view, the request for change should be called off as early as possible. Thank you. Michri michri (talk) 04:33, 13 December 2021 (UTC)
- Are you serious with "dignity", "defamed", "vilified", etc.? Do you know that we are talking an organisation, not a live person? You certainly don't sound like an unbiased editor. — kashmīrī TALK 11:39, 13 December 2021 (UTC)
- "All India" has nothing to do with its position in the Lok Sabha or its vote share. All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam has one seat in the Lok Sabha while Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam has 24. You get the point. Appu (talk) 12:36, 13 December 2021 (UTC)
- @APPU true but the former is commonly known as ADMK. Venkat TL (talk) 12:46, 13 December 2021 (UTC)
I may be a tad bit wrong with the choice of words. But what I want to say is clear like daylight. Let us forget what percentage of vote share and how many seats AITMC has in Lok Sabha. The official name of this political party is 'All India Trinamool Congress' and this name is used in the logo, sign, even in elections. So, I think the change in name is something unnecessary and needless. Anyway, I'd like to have the opinion of Diptyajit in this context. Michri michri (talk) 07:51, 14 December 2021 (UTC)
- @Michri michri, a party doesn't need "India" or "all India" in its name to be recognized as "National Party", Bahujan Samaj Party is also a national party without "all India", so your argument is truly based on emotions and looks like you are violating WP:NPOV. Kalanumber (talk) 08:26, 19 December 2021 (UTC)
- Support per WP:COMMONNAME. Kalanumber (talk) 08:22, 19 December 2021 (UTC) — Kalanumber (talk • contribs) has made few or no other edits outside this topic.
Kalanumber, excluding the fact of being recognised as a national party, the 'All India' prefix should not be removed considering the fact that the prefix is used during the time of elections, even in flags and logos. It's its official name. I don't think that WP:COMMONNAME is quite applicable in this context. Anyway, I'd like to have the opinion of Diptyajit regarding this matter. Thanks. Michri michri (talk) 09:14, 19 December 2021 (UTC)
- @Michri michri, Can you please use indentation in a discussion? Read Wikipedia:Indentation. Thanks. — kashmīrī TALK 10:19, 19 December 2021 (UTC)
- @Kashmiri Being a new-comer and novice in Wikipedia, I did not know the use of indentation. By the guidance and aid of a helpful veteran user, I understood the norm. From now on, I shall use it while replying. Btw, even after nearly a couple of weeks of the move request, no consensus has been reached. It doesn't seem that any such consensus will be reached soon, considering the lack of interest from users. So, I'd suggest to either call off the move or close the discussion.
- Support per nom. "It's the official name" is not a valid policy-based reason to keep the current name. Per WP:COMMONNAME:
Wikipedia does not necessarily use the subject's "official" name as an article title; it generally prefers the name that is most commonly used (as determined by its prevalence in a significant majority of independent, reliable English-language sources)
. See also the supplement WP:OFFICIALNAMES. Colin M (talk) 15:26, 30 December 2021 (UTC)
Kerala Kerala Pradesh Trinamool Congress was launched in 2009. In 2014 its candidates contested 5 seats under the party symbol in the parliamentary election. Leaders like Mukul Roy, Derek O'Brien, Mahua Moitra and Nadimul Haque visited Kerala and gave directions for further development in the party's activities. In the 2016 state election TMC contested in 70 assembly constituencies but due to technical errors, the party symbol was not accepted. On 3 August 2021 a 51-member state committee was formed and hoardings with caption "Call Didi Save India" were spread in parts of the state.[42][43][44][45] Following leaders were elected in the committee – Manoj Sankaranellur (State President), Shamsu Payaningal (Working President), Harish Palathingal (State Secretary, Media & IT). — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tmcitsecretory (talk • contribs) 10:38, 22 January 2022 (UTC)

- What matters is WP:COMMONNAME, not the "official" name of the party. The Conservative Party (UK) is officially the Conservative and Unionist Party, but no-one actually calls it that. Pawnkingthree (talk) 23:15, 4 March 2023 (UTC)

Artical should be rename as it's official name, AITC.
As of ECI all India Trinamool Congress is the official name. Artical should be named all India Trinamool Congress. Maphumor (talk) 09:14, 7 September 2023 (UTC)

Criticism and controversies
In the realm of Indian politics, controversies arise on a daily basis. It's unnecessary to include every single daily controversy or news item unless the individual in question has been convicted by the Indian Judiciary or has served a considerable amount of time in jail. Also, Having a separate controversies section in articles isn't ideal. Instead, the pertinent issues should be addressed within the relevant sections of the individual's career articles, rather than consolidating them into a section that may incite negativity. Criticism and controversies section will be trimmed heavily in due time. Do no revert or engage in edit wars. I would request editors to discuss here on talk page before adding them. Thank you. Tcspower (talk) 07:18, 9 April 2024 (UTC)
- Looking at the deleted text, I see controversies involving multiple party members, rather than isolated incidents involving just one person at a time. As a result, it seems appropriate to include it in this article. I also note that there are only summaries here with links to main articles, which is also appropriate—and which indicates the depth of coverage. As a result, I have restored the page to the status quo ante condition until/unless consensus is reached to remove it. —C.Fred (talk) 17:37, 9 April 2024 (UTC)
