Pre-GA review

edit

Disclaimer: I started typing this list sometime earlier this morning/afternoon, so if any of the following has already been addressed, my apologies, but please still check it off the list. Thanks!

  • I'm concerned that 6 out of the 10 sentences in the "Early Career" paragraph start with the word "she." While the information here is interesting, this makes the read itself less interesting.
  • 2001-2002
How/why did Stratus become "involved in a feud with Lita"? If this information can be included and referenced, please do so.
  • 2002-2003
Being only one of four women to ever win the Hardcore Championship (which isn't noted in the article), how did Stratus even get involved in a match to win it? I know the title-reign was short lived, but if a bit more could be mentioned about the HC title besides "in passing" that would be good. If it can be included and referenced, please do so.
  • Comment - Sorry to do this Nikki311, but I'm changing the reference from OWoW to PWWEW due to the controversy we had recently regarding the website. This way, we can prove that wrestling articles with a long career history don't have to depend on OWoW. - Deep Shadow 16:54, 10 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
  • 2002-2003
Given that it lasted 3+ months, was there any more to the Stratus vs. Molly Holly feud other than the fact that they both wanted the Women's title? More ..as in ..any other reasons for the feud? If it can be included and referenced, please do so.
  • Comment - From what I can find, the feud involved various tag team matches and she was feuding with Victoria at the same time (which is already mentioned in the article). Also, Stratus was in matches against other Divas (not notable week by week information), which probably helped the storyline carry on for 3 months. - Deep Shadow 12:34, 7 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
  • Comment - That's about what I can find, too. Apparently, all the face divas were feuding with all the heel divas, so it really was just a big mess of week by week. Nikki311 16:32, 10 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
  • 2002-2003, paragraph 4, sentence 2
Why was Stratus now feuding with Gail Kim and Molly Holly? If this information can be included and referenced, please do so.
  • 2004-2005, last sentence of paragraph 2
Stratus was challenged by Hemme, who later revealed was being trained by Lita, for a title match at WrestleMania 21 and was successful in retaining the title. ?
Is there a missing word here? Like, should it be Stratus was challenged by Hemme, who later revealed she was being trained by Lita, for a title match at WrestleMania 21 and was successful in retaining the title.
Or possibly Stratus was challenged by Hemme, who was later revealed was being as having been trained by Lita, for a title match at WrestleMania 21 and was successful in retaining the title. ?
  • 2004-2005, first sentence of paragraph 3
In May 2005 Stratus was sidelined with the Women's Championship after suffering a herniated disc, with the storyline explanation being that Viscera had injured her at Backlash after she berated him for losing to Lita's kayfabe husband Kane.
I think "being" might be an extraneous word here.
  • 2006, paragraph 1, sentence 1
The storyline partnership between Stratus and James continued into 2006, with the two Divas even competing against each other in a title match at New Year's Revolution, where Stratus emerged victorious.
I'm just wondering if the word "partnership" should be used here? Were they still teaming together often or did they not team together again until the March 18 SNME? I may not be remembering everything correctly but if I am, the word "partnership" could just be omitted. If I'm on crack, just tell me.
  • 2006, paragraph 1, sentence 7
dislocated shoulder should be wikilinked.
  • 2006, paragraph 2, sentence 1
Stratus returned to the ring on June 26 and started a romantic angle with Carlito after he saved her from a double team attack from Melina and Johnny Nitro.
It might read smoother if the the second "from" was changed to "by."
  • 2006, paragraph 2
Why did Trish and Carlito feud with Edge and Lita? If this info can be included and referenced, please do so.
  • 2006, paragraph 2, last sentence
submission maneuver should be wikified.
  • 2006, paragraph 2, last sentence
Stratus defeated Lita by using fellow Canadian Bret Hart's signature submission maneuver, the Sharpshooter, to win a record seventh Women's Championship and retiring as champion.
I think it should probably be either
(1) Stratus defeated Lita by using fellow Canadian Bret Hart's signature submission maneuver, the Sharpshooter, to win a record seventh Women's Championship and retired as champion. or
(2) Stratus defeated Lita by using fellow Canadian Bret Hart's signature submission maneuver, the Sharpshooter, to win a record seventh Women's Championship, and retiring as champion.
  •   Done I changed it to Stratus defeated Lita by using fellow Canadian Bret Hart's signature submission maneuver, the Sharpshooter, to win a record seventh Women's Championship and retire as champion. That way, the sentence structure is parallel. Nikki311 01:18, 6 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
That works, I knew there was something odd there :P --Naha|(talk) 01:24, 6 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
  • Outside of Wrestling, sentence 1
What is the "World Natural Sports Association"? Also, did she do anything particularly important here that should be noted? As always, if this information can be included and referenced, please do so :)

I found a link to this organization (http://www.bodyproud.org), which I'm fairly sure is the WNSA referened in the article, except now it's called World Natural Sports Organization. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 4.68.248.2 (talk) 16:44, 16 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

Overall, I believe this article is very good and should not have much problem passsing GA. --Naha|(talk) 00:23, 6 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Additional comments

edit

I've only given the article a quick glance, I'll add more later but two points stand out to me.

  • The lead is too short, check out WP:LEAD for a guideline on leads and lengths and content etc.
  • There are redundant articles listed under "Notes" and "References", if they're cited (thus on the "Notes" list) it doesn't need to be listed again later on. Also in my view the "Notes" sections should be called "References" and the current references section is more like a "Futher information" / "Further reading" type of section.
  • Actually, I'm pretty sure they do. Footnotes are where you list what source you used for a particular piece of information. References are where you list all the references used. That's why in the notes section you can shorthand a book title to say, for example, Mick Foley. Hardcore Diaries (p.12), but you have to write out the full citation in the reference section including ISBN, date, publisher, etc. At least that's the way I've been taught and the method I've used on every college paper I've ever done. WP:Cite#How to cite sources seems to agree with me on that last bit. Nikki311 17:15, 6 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Like I said my initial comments, may be more to come but it's looking pretty good already. MPJ-DK 13:38, 6 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

  • There's one line that's bugging me but I'm having trouble changing it: "It was during her stint managing T & A that Stratus had her first taste of punishment in the ring…" in the 2000–2001 section. The word punishment seems like it could be changed. I would have changed the line to something like "It was during her stint managing T & A that Stratus took her first bump in the ring…" but I'm not sure if she had actually taken bumps prior to that. - Deep Shadow 17:06, 10 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
  • Now that you've pointed it out, that line is bothering me, too. I'm pretty sure it was her first in-ring bump, but I can't really find anything about that to either prove or disprove it. Maybe if you say "It was during her stint managing T & A that Stratus took her first major bump in the ring…". At the very least, if she had taken a bump on TV before, it was nothing as big as being put through a table. Nikki311 19:43, 10 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

What?

edit

Why is there a reference section under the notes on this page? All the info from the references section is in the notes section. Can someone please explain this to me? (MgTurtle 23:52, 10 September 2007 (UTC))Reply

The Notes (short for Footnotes) section is where you indicate where a particular piece of information came from, so that someone can easily verify it. The References (or Bibliography or Works Cited) is where you indicate all the references used. It is done that way in every major style of referencing: Harvard, Chicago, and MLA. Nikki311 23:59, 10 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Okay. But that's seems like the same thing. Is it really necessary since it does add length to the page since there is no required way of referencing?(MgTurtle 11:12, 11 September 2007 (UTC)).Reply

Former Canadian?

edit

"Trish Stratus, is a former Canadian fitness model, retired professional wrestler and television personality.". I can't see any mention of her being a "former Canadian" except this one, so I'm guessing it's supposed to "... is a Canadian former [something]...". Do you agree? If so, edit the article accordingly. 85.224.199.36 20:19, 24 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Agreed. Also, please post new messages at the bottom of the talk page. Thanks. Nikki311 21:23, 24 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

That won't work, because she was only a fitness model in canada, so she was a canadian fitness model. So, since she stopped doing that to go into wrestling, she is a former canadian fitness model, not a canadian former fitness model, plus, the first sounds more professional and sounds better, period.Ihavasthma91 22:22, 20 October 2007 (UTC) spankyReply

Trish is internationally recognized in the fitness world, not just in Canada. MuscleMag, B&K, Muscle magazine are all fitness mags that are internationally distributed and it's not only in Canada that she's recognized in the fitness world. Perhaps it would be less confusing to just say "Trish Stratus currently resides in her native Toronto, Canada and is a former fitness model, wrestler and television personality. - TK —Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.247.18.169 (talk) 05:53, 25 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

No, it's not. It's a fansite. The proof is here. Her official site is and always has been TrishStratus.com. The proof is here. Anyway, the reason why it says she is the second eldest is because of the citation used in the article. A direct unedited quote from the source (an interview with Stratus) says "My (younger) sister, me and my two cousins spent our summers wrestling." It implies that there is specifically only one younger sister. That is why it says she is the second eldest. However, if you can provide a source that is not a fansite and is more reliable than this interview, I am willing to compromise on this issue. - Deep Shadow 06:23, 22 December 2007 (UTC)Reply
That proves nothing either way, as
a) the word "younger" is not part of the quote but a later addition by the interviewer (note the brackets).
b) speaking about one "younger" daughter doesn't mean that the other daughter is the oldest of the three. It could also denote that TS was talking about the younger of her two sisters. TS could very well be the oldest.
I have not delved into any references for TS being the oldest and merely removed the unsourced claim that she is siters number 2.
And I have also included both parents' ethnical descent. Str1977 (talk) 21:55, 2 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Trish is the oldest of three girls. I have her Stratusfaction DVD she mentions that her sister Christie is 11 months younger than her and Melissa is of course younger than her by 10 years. - 26 May 2008

Missing move

edit

Her move list is missing something she used quite a lot. I don't know the moves name but when ever she was whipped towards the turnbuckle, she would counter by slinging her legs up into the air then around her oppnents neck. She would then flip them over, sort of like a headscissors takedown. Maybe it's called something like a Corner Slingshot Headscissors Takedown? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.114.236.233 (talk) 19:23, 15 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

8th Time Champion Overall?

edit

I've been seeing a trend lately concerning the addition of overall championship records for the Divas/Knockouts that won a title(s).

From Mickie James' article

"She, however, was released from the company on April 22, 2010, after which she returned to Total Nonstop Action Wrestling, where she became the first one to have won the WWE Women's, WWE Divas, and TNA Knockouts Titles, and is a seven-time champion overall."

From Melina's article

She also captured the WWE Divas Championship on two occasions in 2009 and 2010, making her a five-time champion overall.

So since Trish won the WWE Hardcore Championship, does that make her an 8th time champion? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.49.239.240 (talk) 21:49, 18 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

Unreliable sources

edit

@Tanbircdq:: I'm not going to revert again, because I really don't feel like an edit war, but PWWEW.net is not a reliable source. WP:PW/SG#Sources documents reliable wrestling-related sources (basically: official promotion websites, WON, Slam! Wrestling, Pro Wrestling Torch, and WrestleView). None of the sources you provided fit into the category of reliable. I would appreciate if you would self-revert or at the very least find a reliable source to back up your edit. NiciVampireHeart 20:20, 14 May 2014 (UTC)Reply

Good to hear you do not "feel" like an WP:EDITWAR. If PWWEW.net is not a reliable source, then all of these as well as angelfire.com sources need to be removed from Wikipedia not just the ones that support something you do not like. Tanbircdq (talk) 23:10, 18 May 2014 (UTC)Reply
There is not "if" about it; it's not reliable. I agree, they all need to be removed. Unfortunately, I do not have the required hundreds of free hours to do it. You can, of course, do it yourself.
Since you seem to be incapable of honouring a simple request (I even linked you to a list of reliable sources), I have replaced the sources for you. Please refrain from adding such unreliable sources in the future; just because they already exist on wikipedia is no reason to further reduce the article quality by introducing more. NiciVampireHeart 07:36, 19 May 2014 (UTC)Reply
Hi, thanks for adding the references. The reason I said "if" is because I was not aware of there being a list of reliable wrestling based sources prior to you providing me the link. I did try to find the references from the list on the link but was unable to find any, take care. Tanbircdq (talk) 10:02, 19 May 2014 (UTC)Reply

Birth place

edit

@TheCelebrinator: In the interview source (from her website), she explicitly says that she was born in Toronto, Ontario. So, we'd need a better source than that, that is an interview where she specifically mentions the suburb as her birth place. This is a GA status article, so I've restored the WP:STABLE version, do not modify sourced content without discussion, and please do not edit war. -Fylindfotberserk (talk) 12:20, 8 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

Kurt Angle's article lists his birthplace as Mt Lebanon Township instead of Pittsburgh, PA, so I don't see why this should be any different. Here is a source that lists her as "Richmond Hill–born": Article on TrishStratus.com
It's from her website, so it'd be an authoritative source. There are others. TheCelebrinator (talk) 12:23, 8 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
@TheCelebrinator: She didn't say it though, it is not in quotes here, likely worded by Brian Lusczki, the author of the article. Also this isn't Kurt Angle's article, this one got to GA status in its own right. I'll pin a few people. Wait. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 12:38, 8 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
There are multiple articles, spanning over a decade, that refer to her as "Richmond Hill–born" or alternatively a "Richmond Hill native." My point is that on other articles on Wikipedia, including wrestling, the subject's birthplace is given as the suburb, not as the city to which the suburb belongs to.
2018 Article from York Region listing her as a Richmond Hill native
2015 Article from York Region – written 3 years apart by a different author – refers to her as a Richmond Hill native.
2023 Article listing her as born in Richmond Hill
That's 4 different articles from 3 different sources. You have to keep in mind that it's common to say you're from the city instead of a suburb, so that interview also serves to show that she's from the Toronto area, but not the city itself. TheCelebrinator (talk) 12:53, 8 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
(edit conflict)@McPhail, HHH Pedrigree, SeosiWrestling, and Sid95Q: The stable version of the article has "Toronto, Ontario" as the subject's birthplace, cited using this interview source. TheCelebrinator wants it changed to "Richmond Hill, Ontario" based on this article, which is likely worded by the article's author Brian Lusczki, I don't see the location written within quotes (ie not Status' own words). Technically, the one that has been established to be from the interview should be preferred. Would like to have your inputs here. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 13:07, 8 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

Sources don't have to be first-hand to be valid and reliable. Four reliable sources, by four different authors, list her as a Richmond Hill native, Richmond Hill–born or some combination thereof. It is highly unlikely that four different sources could all be wrong at the same time.
On the other hand, the only source that supports her birthplace being Toronto (the city) is a 20-year-old interview in which "Toronto" is used in a general context to mean "metro area" and not "city." Compared with other wiki articles such as Kurt Angle's and many more, I think we should keep consistency. TheCelebrinator (talk) 13:15, 8 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
On a side note this source is not reliable. See WP:PW/RS. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 13:11, 8 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
That has already been changed to an already-used source in the article. TheCelebrinator (talk) 13:18, 8 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
"Toronto" is used in a general context to mean "metro area" and not "city." ←– This is personal analysis. I wonder how an interview of the subject is less important than sources written by third party, especially when it is not self-derving. I'd agree to something like "Richmond Hill, Toronto" combining multiple sources though. Anyway, lets wait for the others - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 13:28, 8 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
It is hardly mere 'personal' analysis when it's common to do so in day-to-day life. For example: I'm from a Montreal suburb, but if I was to introduce myself to someone outside of Montreal – and an interview meant for public consumption does count as that – I would simply state that I'm from Montreal instead of, say, Pointe-Claire.
It's perfectly consistent with the Richmond Hill–born designation that Stratus would introduce herself as from Toronto to mean the general metro area, but the other way around creates a contradiction where she's either from Toronto the city or Richmond Hill the town. Hence, the simplest explanation here is most likely the correct one. TheCelebrinator (talk) 13:40, 8 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

"The 27-year-old was born in East York and grew up in Richmond Hill." - seems like she was born in Toronto but moved to Richmond Hill as a child. McPhail (talk) 18:09, 8 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

East York was not in Toronto at the time of her birth but rather an independent town that yet to be incorporated into the city.
Also, that was the only source I could find that describes her as being born in East York, and it's a 20-year-old source. Not sure about using it. TheCelebrinator (talk) 19:00, 8 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
The source currently used is an interview, doesn't matter if it is 20 years old. Someone's birth place or birthdate do not change with newer sources. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 19:06, 8 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
Wasn't Trish's birthdate listed as being in 1976 a while ago? It seems someone's birthdate can indeed be changed. TheCelebrinator (talk) 19:22, 8 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
Source type matters, interview in this case. And it has been 1975 for quite sometime [1] - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 19:41, 8 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
My point is: sources can and will be erroneous or misinterpreted. Her listed birthplace is not an exception to that rule.
Also, I have addressed the interview in another comment above. In 2001, when Stratus was still relatively new to WWE and had just won her first title, people wanted to know where she was from. Most people wouldn't have heard of Richmond Hill, but they'd have heard of Toronto, so she simply stated "Toronto." It's not an either-or as most people will do that when they're from a suburb.
It's by far the simplest explanation of her answer and corresponds perfectly with the other sources published later (whereas the opposite interpretation means there would be a contradiction). TheCelebrinator (talk) 19:57, 8 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
"In 2001, when Stratus was still relatively new to WWE and had just won her first title, people wanted to know where she was from.... most people will do that when they're from a suburb.. - Please read WP:NOR, we are not supposed to infer something which is not explicitly stated. She said "Toronto, Ontario" in the interview, it is well enough for Wikipedia. Richmond is part of Toronto area and so is East York, reliably sourced by User:McPhail. It is better to keep it as is. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 20:12, 8 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
If we must keep the "Toronto designation", I suggest a compromise where the link to it is replaced with the one to the GTA instead of the city itself. Like you pointed out, Richmond Hill is part of the GTA, so was East York as an independent town. It is way too specific to claim that Toronto City was her birthplace when there are other credible sources that claim otherwise. TheCelebrinator (talk) 23:17, 8 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
I'm OK with this sort of piping/backlinking →"[[Greater Toronto Area|Toronto]]". - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 10:30, 9 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
Alright, that's what I propose we do, then. I'm glad we were able to reach a compromise. The fact is, there's a bit too much ambiguity for my liking, so I think this is the next best thing. TheCelebrinator (talk) 12:05, 9 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

Wrestling persona

edit

I think a section dedicated to her wrestling persona/character should be added, possibly combined with the 'Legacy' section. TheCelebrinator (talk) 05:58, 26 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

I could have sworn there used to be a ‘Legacy’ section. Was it removed? If it was never there, it doesn’t make sense that Lita and Stephanie McMahon have one, but Trish doesn’t… 2603:7000:BF0:7F30:34EF:97C3:E92B:49B2 (talk) 11:41, 7 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

Which name to use?

edit

I was just reading this through for the first time, and there is a lack of consistency using "Stratus" versus her "real" last name. I'm sure there are people who are much bigger fans of her and/or closer to her in real life, but I think someone needs to decide which way to go on this. Personally, I would just use "Stratus" throughout the entry, but as I said, I'll leave that to those who are bigger editors on this entry. To a layperson like myself, this lack of consistency is confusing. Asc85 (talk) 12:51, 27 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

Since no one has responded, I changed it to Stratus throughout the article, which is less confusing and more consistent Asc85 (talk) 01:07, 1 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
