Surname

How can her father's name and her mother's surname be Krishnan, when she has said her full name is Trisha Krishnamurthy/Krishnamoorthy? Her surname might have been shortened to Krishnan for convenience but that doesn't really change the fact that her father's name is Krishnamurthy, does it? Why are some people insisting on renaming her parents to "Krishnans" in the "early life" section? Miss p r (talk) 16:54, 30 November 2008 (UTC)

Fan point of view

I feel that whoever wrote this article was biased. Trisha has had her share of hits and flops. But only the hits were mentioned. And the flops were "average grossers"? [redact] —Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.243.248.200 (talk) 01:35, 14 December 2010 (UTC)

So the writer means that trisha was only 15 years old when she acted as a friend of Simran in Jodi? it's ridiculous...

All of her movies in tamil were either flops or below average grosser except Ghilli, Saamy & Thirupaachi —Preceding unsigned comment added by 115.184.217.86 (talk) 09:04, 4 February 2010 (UTC)

Why is Trisha's caste so prominently mentioned?

In the Wikipedia article "Trisha Krishnan", why is Trisha's caste identity as a Brahmin so prominently mentioned? Can you find any other article about any Indian actress where the caste of the actress is so prominently mentioned? The editor has seen no point in mentioning her religion or mother tongue, so why does the editor make an exception for caste?

I believe the page has been created by someone who wants to promote caste-based divisions and divide Indians.

-Trisha’s caste (Tamil Iyer) has been mentioned on this page merely to give readers a little more information. The caste has not been prominently mentioned, if you see the article it is just slotted in a sentence in a very passive manor. By adding the caste I don’t mean to split the Indian community what so ever. The writer of this comment has very shallow thinking in my opinion. Wikipedia articles are created to enrich knowledge of information seekers. It is only fair that all parties include all relevant information they know about the subject.

-Especially, in Tamil-Nadu (and in India) where caste is so insignificant I too wonder why caste gets mentioned in this page

Absouletly true, no reason to delete the caste due to some shallow minded thinking. Whether we like it or not, what was stated is true. Wikipedia, as mentioned is not to write / modify articles as per ones feelings. Write and defend the facts, let it be bitter or sweet. Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. S3000

Is there any citation for her Iyer identity? --Rrjanbiah 17:25, 17 June 2007 (UTC)
Here they are ;

I have been watching some edits on the fact she's an Iyer by certain users that question the citations I've given. To their information, at least one of the citations above are considered as reliable sources. As most know the Internet Movie Database is a pretty reliable source for such information and it is documented there too! Reading your footnote, why don't you please produce reliable sources that prove otherwise. That will help prove your claim, rather than just writing 'she's not a brahmin'.--S3000 (talk) 15:17, 2 January 2008 (UTC)

Trisha's birth town ?

In the article, the birth place of Trisha has been first mentioned as Chennai, and then in the photo as Palakkad. Could someone please verify and update with correct information? - unni 15:28, 7 July 20010(UTC)

We are not permitted to use a film screenshot solely to depict Trisha Krishnan; check the license text. We may use a film screenshot to provide critical commentary about that film, but using a film screenshot simply to depict Krishnan is not acceptable. We either need to replace the image with an acceptable one or remove the image altogether. Much better would be to find a free image but this may be troublesome. --Yamla 19:05, 24 August 2006 (UTC)

Many controversies related to trisha aren't mentioned. Please remember that Wikipedia should be a collection of facts but not biased opinions. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 220.226.74.50 (talk) 19:12, 13 May 2007 (UTC).

If you feel there are any with credible sources, please add them.--S3000 07:45, 19 June 2007 (UTC)

Yes! an article needs to provide a balanced viewpoint. Moreover the article is from a credible source (Times of India: http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/articleshow/966048.cms) and it in no way publishes its own opinion in this matter. Hence I feel its fair to provide a link to this article, atleast in the external links section.

This is not appropriate for the external links section. It would possibly be appropriate for the main article itself (and then the link used as a reference) if there was any content here. But there just isn't. The video clip appears to be yet another fake and as per WP:BLP, we can't add information we have reason to believe is not accurate. --Yamla 22:52, 26 June 2007 (UTC)

The motive is not to project Trisha Krishnan as the woman in the video. It is just a piece of information which was heavily covered by the media. The source of the article too is one of the most respected newspapers in the country.

If the video is not Trisha Krishnan, it is not relevant here. I also think it is stretching the truth a bit to state that that is one of the most respected newspapers in the country. Please see WP:BLP. We have to be very careful about what we say in a biography of a living person. --Yamla 23:03, 26 June 2007 (UTC)
Ok, so now you begin to question TOI's credibility. Please have a look at wikipedia's own article about TOI before posting any remarks. I dont think it would be the most widely circulated English daily if its credibility were in question. I think you need to check the facts before you prune some article about some random indian actress. TOI definitely is a larger figure in Indian society than trisha krishnan and I'm sure they wouldnt slander some actress just to improve their circulation. Moreover it wasnt only TOI that reported this news. So in that case are you going to question the credibility of the Indian news reporting media ?

It is also unfair to make a personal comment by saying "you are stretching the truth" based on what "you think" i.e your personal opinion, especially since there is a whole lot of evidence to say that the Times of India is one of the most respected newspapers in India. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Times_of_india

There's a whole section in Times of India devoted to how the newspaper is sinking to yellow journalism and that its reputation has taken "such a plunge". In any case, this particular newspaper article essentially states that someone who resembles Krishnan is possibly doing the rounds on the Internet. And what source do they use? Galatta. Please. This is a long way away from WP:BLP. --Yamla 23:45, 26 June 2007 (UTC)

The "whole section" you are referring to has been flagged as "The tone or style of this article or section may not be appropriate for Wikipedia.". How can we possibly justify using something which is not appropriate for Wikipedia itself. I may as well ask what the sources are for the "criticisms". For example some blog discussion http://wethemedia.blogspot.com/2005/11/naughty-naughty-naughty.html has been used as a reference. Isn't it more reasonable to trust Times of india than some blog discussion?.

I have pointed you to WP:BLP. There is nothing more to say. --Yamla 00:09, 27 June 2007 (UTC)
Come on, everybody knows about Trisha's bath video and all the other scandals she's supposed to have been involved in. Whats wrong in adding it in a neutral point of view with credible sources. News articles can be included as citations if we write it was reported that......--S3000 09:59, 27 June 2007 (UTC)
Just so you guys know as you are discussing about Times of India. This would be interesting. Gnanapiti 14:39, 27 June 2007 (UTC)

the more i read these discussions, the more i think wikipedia is less and less what it claims to be. The media scandal that surrounds this actress is a well-established fact. While the actress has skirted responsibility by denying it is her. Earlier admission makes this denial questionable. That reputed newspapers reported it is another fact.

Clinton is another example of a living celebrity embroiled in previous sex scandals. Are you saying it's neutral POV to NOT report it? The wikipedia article's purpose is not to establish culpability. By reporting this scandal, we are not merely citing tabloids and unfounded rumors but reporting a major event in this celebrity's personal and professional life.

It seems to me however that editors with a bias are hiding behind "neutral POV" and distorting the article to serve their own agenda.

The only difference between the media that covered clinton and the one covering trisha was that it was a western media that broadcasted it for the world whereas trisha is a south indian celebrity who's fame is probably restricted to the indian subcontinent and communities of Overseas indians. So I ask, is there a neutral POV towards mainstream indian media by the editors?

At the very least there should be a link at the bottom of the page to a nes article.

While the morals and personal censorship values of the editors may help them in maintain self-respect. I urge them to uphold a sense of integrity and objectivism and not let bias distort this article. Runehawk 16:55, 26 October 2007 (UTC)

There's significant reason to believe the woman in the video is not her. Do you have a reliable source that Krishnan admitted it was her? If so, please provide the link. If not, we cannot add it as it would be a blatant violation of WP:BLP. This is completely different from the case with Clinton where the incident in question clearly did take place and has been admitted by all people involved. --Yamla 17:02, 26 October 2007 (UTC)
The pages of certain politicians too have a section on controversies although they never 'admitted' it. Just 1 example is the George Fernandes article. I never heard him admitting that he was wrong in the Barak SAM scandal, yet its there. There are many more of such articles I've come across. Although Trisha claims that the one in the video isn't her there's no harm in including it, adding that a video 'claiming' to be her bathing was circulated while she was in South Africa filming Thirupaachi... while she claims that it isn't her in the video, being the work of parties who want to defame her. I don't see that being 'a blatant violation of WP:BLP'.--Flexijane (talk) 13:19, 27 November 2007 (UTC)
Why is it said that "There's significant reason to believe the woman in the video is not her" ? What is the "significant reason" ? Is it because she herself said that the one in the video is not her ? In my opinion the issue should be included in the article but in a positive viewpoint just as how others above have suggested. By the way, one may find this write-up interesting. To save time, just check out the topic 'Trisha Krishnan linkups'. I hope you all get whats meant.Automaniaconwiki (talk) 13:05, 16 December 2007 (UTC)

Trisha should be referred as Trisha and not Krishnan, as the article wrongly does.

Clearly, the article was written by someone who does not understand Tamil naming convention. Tamil speaking people (covering all religions and castes) usually do not have surnames. The naming scheme is very simple in Tamil Nadu. A person's name is preceded by what is called an "initial." The initial is the first letter of one's father. In this case as Trisha's father's name is Krishnan, her proper name will be K. Trisha. If the father's name is two words long, say, Krishnan Rajan, then the initials would be K.R. Trisha or just K. Trisha, but not R. Trisha. There is no hard and fast rule or convention when the father's name is two words long.

So Trisha should properly be identified as Trisha and not Krishnan. By calling her Krishnan the writer has made a big mistake.

210.18.49.249 (talk) 08:25, 27 March 2010 (UTC)

Seems like a valid point, but this needs to be discussed first before it gets changed. Unless of course, you can find some reliable sources indicating that. --JokerXtreme (talk) 11:12, 27 March 2010 (UTC)

Any decision yet on Trisha Krishnan's name? She should be called Trisha and NOT Krishnan. It is done on the wrong assumption Krishnan is her surname. By doing that, the writer is actually referring to her father Krishnan though he means Trisha. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 117.193.150.71 (talk) 08:21, 4 April 2010 (UTC)

Trisha's name in Tamil

Hey guys, I want to ask you something relating to Trisha Krishnan's name in the Tamil script, in this article, it is written like this (ISO transliterations included after the name):

த்ரிஷா கிருஷ்ணன், Triṣā Kiruṣṇaṉ

But in the Tamil Wikipedia, her name is written like this:

திரிசா கிருஷ்ணன், Tiricā Kiruṣṇaṉ

So which is the right spelling? The former or the latter? Can someone clarify? Thanks! =)
Yours faithfully, kotakkasut. 08:29, 8 November 2010 (UTC)

1) the ஷ is a grantha character and is one of the five grantha characters commonly used to write Tamil. But Ta. Wiki MoS recommends avoiding grantha characters so there we dont use it there. 2)Also in Tamil, Grammatically a word cannot begin with a orrezhuthu like த், so per written tamil grammer a தி has been used (the later pronunciation is also quite common amongst tamil speakers). Even then the Mos isn't enforced uniformly or strictly, as many people don't agree with it. In en wiki, it is not necessary to be a stickler to Tamil grammer, we can use either.--Sodabottle (talk) 17:43, 30 December 2010 (UTC)

Mentioning Caste

Dear Editors!
There has been a discussion on India Portal related to mentioning of caste of subjects. The point is that mentioning caste of people, who have nothing to do with their caste, is found to be unnecessary by few editors. Hence the caste of the subject person needs to be deleted from the biography. I am not deleting the caste as of now but am only posting this here so that the regular editors of this article are well aware of it beforehand and no edit-wars take place. For details of discussion held on the portal please refer Wikipedia_talk:Noticeboard_for_India-related_topics#Mentioning_caste_of_Individuals. Your views if any are welcome there or even here.
And.... as the reasons of exclusion of caste pointed out were "irrelavant to notability of subject person", "privacy of the subject person", "inclusion of caste is like branding individuals", etc. other information included in the article which also fall under these cases will also be removed after discussions. Examples of it included religion, non-notable spouse's and children's and parents' information, previous occupation, lived in places, non-notability related educational qualification, etc.
Your views on this are also welcome here or at the India portal. -Animeshkulkarni (talk) 17:27, 1 January 2012 (UTC)

As the caste information is of a very personal nature it should be treated the same as religious, ehthnic/descent, and sexuality information in biographies (per WP:BLPCAT and WP:EGRS); that is, a subject's caste should not be included in articles unless it is supported by reliable sources and the person self-identifies as such. I fully support the removal of any caste information not meeting these two requirements and beliveve that BLP policy supports this removal as well. --Jezebel'sPonyobons mots 16:48, 2 January 2012 (UTC)
Your views at Wikipedia_talk:Noticeboard_for_India-related_topics#Mentioning_caste_of_Individuals would be more welcome as other editors can also comment accordingly. -Animeshkulkarni (talk) 10:32, 3 January 2012 (UTC)
