Updating Maps

edit

When can ANYONE update ANY of the maps for "Tropical Cyclones in 201X"? The problem became apparent when I seriously tracked 2018 and it is unbearable to look at a map that is months outdated. (It was last updated on September 24) It would be appreciated if you updated it! Thanks! Cyclone of Foxes (talk) 13:33, 3 January 2019 (UTC)Reply

Seperation on Timeline

Can ANYONE fix the issue with the timeline? Cyclone of Foxes (talk) 18:40, 7 January 2019 (UTC)Reply

march 2019 TLs?

edit

so in the 2018-19 Australian region cyclone season article, it shows some tropical lows, but they aren't included in this article. So are they minor enough to not be added or should they be added? FlappyBird73 (talk) 03:05, 10 March 2019 (UTC)Reply

Add them if they will be counted by the BoM toward any season totals. ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 03:54, 10 March 2019 (UTC)Reply

I'm making a sandbox for tropical cyclones by every year. I have it done back to 2010. I didn't want to publish it til it's back to 1960 (start of satellite coverage), so I could use the help if anyone is interested. ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 21:02, 28 April 2019 (UTC)Reply

I published the sandbox and linked it to the infobox. ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 12:14, 1 May 2019 (UTC)Reply
@Hurricanehink: Maybe we could do those tables for every couple of decades on their own sub-lists and only list the yearly stats on the main article. Im afraid of this requiring a break up due to being too long for readability. This wouldn't even be able to go for FL until we take every verified TC into account. That goes back to 1949 for EPAC (maybe a few more storms before that as well) and into the 1800s for Atlantic. I'm thinking there needs to be supporting material as well in the proposed sub-articles. NoahTalk 23:52, 1 May 2019 (UTC)Reply
Why does there need to be any sub-articles? The list can't be too long, because it's just a list by every single year, so it's easy to navigate. We can decide in the future. Whoever wants to add to it can either continue with the table, or do a new table for the 1990's and earlier. The article won't be complete until it has every tropical cyclone in every year on record. That's been a goal of mine to figure that out, with references for everything. What we have now is a start. ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 00:05, 2 May 2019 (UTC)Reply

TS Gabrielle on timeline

edit

I've been trying to make an edit for TS Gabrielle on the timeline table to account for the period in between its lifespan in which Gabrielle was a remnant low. It shows up incorrectly despite me seemingly using correct format (the error is that one part of the bar shows up above the second bar and the storm's name, and sometimes vice versa). I've tried copy/pasting similar examples that are already on the timeline to see if the error shows up, and it does despite perfect copy/pasting. I'd appreciate it if that could be figured out and edited appropriately, thanks! Rosalina2427 (talk to me) 06:03, 15 September 2019 (UTC)Reply

Count the full length of Dorian?

edit

@Hurricanehink, Jason Rees, Yellow Evan, and Cyclonebiskit: Should we count the full length (including low and ET stages after "dissipation") for all storms since former TCs count in SHEM? This is just for the purpose of keeping everything uniform on this page. NoahTalk 17:54, 24 September 2019 (UTC)Reply

No. It appears that in other yearly TC articles like this, we only indicate the duration while the storm was tropical. Extratropical/precursor impacts are included if they're significant (as in, under the deaths/damage/areas affected), but since the title is Tropical cyclones in 2019, I think we should only list the times for while they're tropical. ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 14:21, 25 September 2019 (UTC)Reply
@Hurricanehink: The issue we run into is that numbered TLs and former TCs are official systems, which then violates only including just TCs. We can't not mention those TLs or times as they are official systems during that time. The problem I am seeing is with the infobox at the top... Wallace is counted for 16 days, but was only tropical for 5. Im thinking we could add a note to the template indicating the time counted is only for its tropical portion. This means we can leave the other stuff alone. NoahTalk 19:35, 25 September 2019 (UTC)Reply
Hmm, I see the issue. Numbered TL's are tropical cyclones, for sure, and former TC's (and their impacts) are fine being included in impacts and damage. I agree, the time included should only be while they are tropical, so no time listed while extratropical. The debate then would be whether time as TL or remnant low should be included. The NHC doesn't include time as a remnant low (see here for example). Regarding Wallace, I'd imagine that its time as a remnant low will be included in its BT, and their lows are treated the same as precursor TL's (I believe). Therefore, I tend to err on the side of being over-inclusive (including remnant/TL's, but not extratropical time). Just my two cents. ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 16:13, 26 September 2019 (UTC)Reply
Former TC's only count in SHEM when we do not have any evidence to say that they are not tropical any more - some times its clear cut and sometimes it isnt. In Wallace's case the BoM says that it degenerated into a remnant tropical low which is why we include it.Jason Rees (talk) 16:49, 26 September 2019 (UTC)Reply
