editThis genealogy seems to mix up a lot; for example, Mumui is stated as a half brother of Tupoulahi and Maealiuaki, also the claim that Tupoumalohi end up in Ha'apai and died there; the claim that Tupouto'a died in 1820; that Tupouto'a was regarded by 'high chiefs' as low status; the claim about this female individual, Tupoumoheofo. My contribution:
- I would like to point out that Tupoulahi was the father of Tupoulahi si'i, Maealiuaki and Mumui. Addition to this, I would like to point out that it was the other way round. King Mumui Tu'i Kanokupolu was very much alive, though old when his first son, Tuku'aho was assassinated. Not as what you claim that Tuku'aho was assassinated after Mumui died. Tupoulahi was the eldest son of Mataeletu'apiko Tu'iKanokupolu
- Tupoumalohi died in Nuku'alofa and buried in Hihifo, Tongatapu.
- Tupout'oa was never been a low status, as proven by his son, that he was the rightful heir to the throne of Tonga. Those 'High Chiefs' were more self indulgent and consequences for them, was that some were totally removed from being as high chief, etc. (Please check out on Tongan location names such as: Ta'akimoeaka, Tu'anuku).
- That female Tupoumoheofo, I think she was a ghost or myth. If such name existed, it has to emerge after the assassination of Tuku'aho, not when Tuku'aho was alive. Please check out the meaning of following names: Ha'a Moheofo, Nginingini ofolanga, Taufa'ahau. All of them are inter-related with Tupoumoheofo.
Thank you. --UNKNOWN PERSON---
- I am the last one to claim that the article is flawless. Several historical sources are known to contradict each other, but not to your extent. What you bring up is not attested by any researcher at all, and even beyond the realm of fantasy. --Tauʻolunga 05:40, 15 August 2007 (UTC)
Tau'olunga: The genealogy you provided was out there so its validity and genuineness needs to be tested and input to given if possible. The point I put forward was the inconsistency of information provided. What researcher (s)? To me the sources is vital, because one's research and outcome will be very much depends on sources and info collected. As on no. 4 of my contribution ,and reference to your info. I think there is no evidence of such a female existed. However if you think there was one while Tuku'aho was alive, can you please provide evidence or sources. Addition to this, other points in my contribution will be same as no. 4. Thank you -Direct descendant of King Mumui Tu'iKanokupolu and HRH Fatafehi 'o Lapaha, Tu'itonga dynasty.
Can't we do better
editI came to this page hoping to learn something about the rise of the Tu'i Konokupolu dynasty in Tonga all I find on Wikipedia is a list of names. Can't we do better? I don't know anything about Tonga, so my humble contribution has been to give this page a quality rating and an importance rating. I hope that brings more editors to this page. -ErinHowarth (talk) 06:17, 17 November 2008 (UTC)
Propose Improvement
edit1. Thank you for the effort at least we can agree on the names and their numbers as with two independent sources from the Tongan Palace Office Website and the Cocker Genealogy.
2. The commentary for each King should be removed as it is degrading in some cases what some of the missionaries or later opinion of writers wrote. Why dont we just write what that King achieved in his time. Just a thought. Imagine saying your comment to them if they were alive, you will be dead in an instant.
3. Tupoumoheofo should be mention as her action initiates the incident where Tuku'aho step in and takeover the Tu'i Kanokupolu. That is mention by the second oldest book about Tonga. George Vason's book was published in 1810 and only second to Captain Cook writing about Tonga. This is the first and oldest book dedicated to Tonga if I may say it here.Puakatau (talk) 18:27, 23 July 2010 (UTC)
Sources
editThe sources explain by the editor debating with Ta'olunga is a biased unreliable source from Niumeitolu Family Tree who wrote their own version of History post 1950s or post 1960s.
I have added some material to this article. These sources I believe is the only first hand account or some of the oldest account written on Tonga:
1. Capt Cook, 1777
2. George Vason, 1810, 1815, 1840
3. William Mariner, 1815?
4. Sarah Farmer, 1855 with the writing of Mr Thomas
5. All the post 1826 Methodist Missionaries and Catholic Missionaries.
I will continue to add on some material whenever possible and time permit. thanks guys. Puakatau (talk) 18:19, 6 September 2010 (UTC)
Purpose of this entry - Tu'i Kanokupolu
editAn encyclopedia is meant to educate. A reader turns to an encyclopedia to discover knowledge on a subject s/he did not know before. I have clicked onto this page from another and having read it and as a non Tongan have no idea at all what a Tu'i Kanokupolu is/was/has been. And I switched here to find out. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Brixtonboy (talk • contribs) 03:39, 4 June 2013 (UTC)
