Southwestern English name
editIs it not the case that this surname is primarily a Southwest England name? Although there are Tuckers all over England today, they would be descended from people in Cornwall, Devon or Somerset. ACEOREVIVED (talk) 20:39, 1 September 2009 (UTC)
And to further my last comment - it says on the following website: http://genuki.cs.ncl.ac.uk/DEV/DevonSurnames/Part1.html
That there are some names which began in isolated parts of Devon, but others - such as Webber or Tucker - which began in several parts of SouthWest England. There is enough information on the world wide web for us to conclude that this is a South-West England surname (the equivalent of "Fuller" in East Anglia or "Walker" in the North) so I really think that we should add this to the article. Strange
edit"The origin of the name is not entirely certain, but since it has a long history as a surname on the continent, as in England and from thereon, also in the United States, it presumably has the same Saxon roots." The same roots as what? --Anvilaquarius (talk) 08:35, 31 July 2021 (UTC)
