"Funneling money to Giuliani"

The article contains this rather inflammatory language: "controversy for funneling money raised ostensibly for families of September 11 first responders to instead provide financial assistance to former New York mayor Rudy Giuliani." The cited article is behind a paywall, making it difficult for readers to understand any context or nuance behind these allegations or whether the inflammatory rhetoric is in the original article.

According to the organization the money was paid advertising to Giuliani Communications for advertising on his now defunct show. A quote from the organization in an article from SILive.com clarifies this “Tunnel to Towers has advertised on Mayor Giuliani’s now canceled radio program and his podcast as part of a much broader advertising plan. Payments for that advertising, and all advertising in general, are made to the appropriate media outlets and/or advertising agency, not directly to talent such as Mr. Giuliani. This is standard practice in media. Our advertising plan promotes the Foundation’s mission and aids in getting our messages to potential donors.”

This is a small blip in the life of this organization's history so I'm loathe to add a separate section on this. I can easily add the quote from T2T to counter the allegations. Given that the SILive article does not use language implying funds were raised under false pretenses or that the money was not paid for services received, leaving the existing inflammatory language seems antithetical to Wikipedia's standards.

Any thoughts on how best to handle? Address language and include counter quote or just include counter quote? Jane Digby (talk) 22:09, 17 September 2024 (UTC)
