Name

edit

Can anyone give us the meaning of the name "Hagupit" and tell us where it comes from? The worry amongst many pundits is that foreign sounding names will be associated with terrorism. Mwahcysl (talk) 08:22, 5 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

The name meaning is already in the articleJason Rees (talk) 16:07, 5 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Landfall intensity

edit

Typhoon Hagupit hit China with 140 mile-per hour winds in the area north of Haninan Island. Has any other typhoon hit this area in China (Guangdung province) with this intensity? If not, could we put this in as one of Hagupit's records, if you could make a section about it?

I thought that too, but I looked into the UNISYS track files, and found two others

It has been a long time since one of that intensity hit the area though. There have also been numerous Category three typhoons. The actual landfall intensity for Hagupit was 125-135mph (Borderline Cat:3/4) Cyclonebiskit (talk) 14:31, 1 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

The 1953 and 1955 typhoons made landfall on Haninan island at their respective strengths; I meant has any typhoon made landfall on the small peninsula north of Haninan island at Hagupit's strength? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.235.209.99 (talk) 21:33, 1 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Just Typhoon Hagupit

edit

Well, with 1 billion in damage and 89 deaths, it appears that this storm could be a retirement canidate. Should we move this page to Typhoon Hagupit? It appears to be a very notable storm, and also appears to be the more notable of the 2 storms named Hagupit. Should the (2008) be taken off with this storm?76.235.206.88 (talk) 20:58, 22 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Lets wait and see what happens next month before we move it. As if Fengshen is not retired than this one will not be Jason Rees (talk) 21:20, 22 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Well, Jason, we aren't sure which ones will and won't be retired here. Hagupit killed much less than Fengshen, but caused more than twice as much damage. We'll wait on it. 76.236.191.27 (talk) 01:23, 24 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Same landfall place

edit

Should there be something in the main article mentioning that 2002's Tropical Storm Hagupit made landfall in the exact same place in China that this typhoon did? I'm not sure if it's a record that should be mentioned, but should it be there? 76.236.191.27 (talk) 01:23, 24 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

It could be mentioned as a coincidence, but otherwise it's not really notable. Cyclonebiskit (talk) 01:30, 24 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

I don't think such a thing has happened before - exept with TS Allison in 1989 and 2001. It could be mentioned though... 76.236.191.27 (talk) 12:35, 24 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Terrible

edit

This page is ill-organized and the head is absolutely terrible. Someone has to rebuild this page to make it better. I'd give this Start-class at most. --JavaHurricane (talk) 09:37, 4 October 2019 (UTC)Reply
