Route description

• US 40 Alternate begins as Baltimore Street at its intersection with Potomac Street, which is one-way southbound, - which street is the one-way?
• Baltimore Street continues west as a city street toward the Hagerstown City Park. Baltimore Street runs east–west two blocks south of US 40, which comprises a one-way pair of Washington Street eastbound and Franklin Street westbound. - combine
  • These two concerns seemed somewhat contradictory. I revised the two or three involved sentences. Let me know if that works or if I should do something else with the passage.  VC  19:16, 16 June 2012 (UTC)
• The highway passes under Interstate 70 (I-70) (Eisenhower Memorial Highway) with no access and intersects Poffenberger Road, which leads west to the historic home Valentia. - try to avoid double parentheses
  • I moved the first reference to I-70 to the Lead to eliminate the double parentheses.  VC  19:16, 16 June 2012 (UTC)
• The alternate routes continues southeast as Boonsboro Pike and starts to ascend South Mountain. - subject/verb agreement

• At the base of the mountain, the alternate route temporarily expands to a four-lane divided highway through its half-diamond interchange with I-70 (Eisenhower Memorial Highway), - don't need to say Eisenhower again

• The Baltimore and Fredericktown and National turnpikes remained in operation in 1898 and in 1909 when the Maryland State Highway Administration (MDSRC) designated the road between Frederick and Hagerstown for improvement as one of the original state roads. - poor sentence structure
  • I split the sentence into two sentences, one to conclude the first section and the second to commence the second section.  VC  19:16, 16 June 2012 (UTC)

Major intersections

• "I-70 Exit 49" in notes column should have lowercase e.
  • I think the capitalization of "Exit" here is proper as it refers to a specific exit.  VC  19:16, 16 June 2012 (UTC)
    • But it's not a proper noun, and thus it should not be capitalized. This is what all the other USRD FAs use. --Rschen7754 06:27, 17 June 2012 (UTC)
