History Merge
editHi, is there any objection to history merging this with Nations League, which I created to be rapidly redirected? Thanks, Matty.007 21:03, 26 March 2014 (UTC)
- Please now see note at top. Thanks, Matty.007 17:48, 27 March 2014 (UTC)

editUEFA "League of Nations"
editI don't believe this is an official designation (the same way that there's no "UEFA League of Champions") and therefore should not be mentioned in the lede in that sense. Having said that, I googled for it and saw that BBC used it but it was merely in a non-official way. Parutakupiu (talk) 14:29, 13 April 2014 (UTC)
- Yes, my addition of 'League of Nations' was undone, despite [1][2][3] and many more. I suggest the info is re-added? Thanks, Matty.007 11:22, 20 April 2014 (UTC)
- The competition is called the Nations League, nowhere does UEFA (or indeed even the media since the announcement) refer to it as a LoN. The BBC article is 1) originally dated from before the announcement of the (name of the) competition 2) uses the LoN label in quotes to describe the idea rather than name it and finally 3) actually uses the proper name (Nations League) in its updated version & title. The Mirror opinion piece is just a rant conjuring up an analogy with the historical League of Nations. Absolutely zero need to include a name which 1) is not the name of the competition, 2) is not used by UEFA who run it, 3) is not used by the media - including the Metro[4] outside a single[5] blog.89.176.87.169 (talk) 13:55, 20 April 2014 (UTC)
- It has still been called the League of Nations, the BBC was from the same day as the announcement, and even if it was only called the League of Nations pre-announcement, some mention of the name should go in the article. Thanks, Matty.007 15:16, 20 April 2014 (UTC)
- First, March 26 comes before the 27th. Second, it has only been called that because the official name was not known. Inclusion of a temporary, working title made up by a particular media outlet is in no way necessary. Especially as the media outlet in question have actually used the correct and official name in the title and body of the updated version of the very article you have linked to as a source.89.176.87.169 (talk) 16:44, 20 April 2014 (UTC)
- I am perfectly able to count to 30 (and more!), so if I said there was a BBC article from the 27, it was either an honest mistake from me or... it was the article I linked above. I have no problem with keeping the article the way it is at present, I merely felt that the project name as it were should be included. Thanks, Matty.007 16:49, 20 April 2014 (UTC)
- I thought you were linking to that other article from the 26th[6] (incidentally the piece from the 27th appears to be only another updated version of that one). My mistake is easily explained, however, because everything about the previous article applies to this one as well: They both use the official name of the Nations League in their titles and text. Additionally, they both also contain the phrase "League of Nations" – but its placement in quotes and context obviously show that it is not a name of the competition but rather a descriptor of sorts. In fact, the very first post in this talkpage thread by Parutakupiu actually addresses this exact point. It is merely a temporary label used in the short time before the name of the Nations League was known and not a designation officially associated with the competition, so again, no need to include it. 89.176.87.169 (talk) 17:03, 20 April 2014 (UTC)
- I know how easy it is to get confused between the two, when I was linking them I opened both, then closed one thinking they were the same article. Thank you for discussing it, best, Matty.007 17:10, 20 April 2014 (UTC)
- I'd also like to add I didn't want to come across as overly confrontational, I just think it is fairly clear that the LoN in those articles is nothing more than a quick label put on the thing before UEFA announced it as the Nations League. And for the reasons above I don't think it would really make much sense for it to be there. It's not like we'd be removing the very commonly used "European Cup" even though officially it was the "European Champion Clubs' Cup". 89.176.87.169 (talk) 17:32, 20 April 2014 (UTC)
- That's fine, there's a difference between the bold revert discuss cycle, which we were rightly engaged in and being confrontational. I still disagree to an extent, but I can see the argument for not including the info is stronger than mine. Thanks again for the help. Matty.007 17:56, 20 April 2014 (UTC)

- I believe Wikipedia ought to take a stand against UeFA's War on possessive plural apostrophes. Change the article titles to Nations' League and Champions' League, the way a literate person would write those words.Planetjanet (talk) 14:57, 9 October 2018 (UTC)
format details
editAt the very least, the section needs to provide comprehensive answers to the following questions: how is NL linked to the European Championship qualifying? What does a team have to do to qualify for the European Championships through NL? The article doesn't even mention how the NL champion is qualified; but I'm more concerned about the complete lack of details how a team of divisions B, C and D can qualify. CapnZapp (talk) 15:43, 24 January 2018 (UTC)
- You are right. Should be in. It is that Winners of league A,B,C and D qualify to the Euro. If allready qualified it goes to the runners-up etc.. -Koppapa (talk) 05:55, 25 January 2018 (UTC)
Replacing friendlies
editI thought that this competition was supposed to replace friendlies. Below are Republic of Ireland 2018 fixtures:
23 March: Turkey (A) - Friendly
28 May: France (A) - Friendly
June: TBC
6 September: Wales (A) - Nations League
11 September: Poland (A) - Friendly
13 October: Denmark (H) - Nations League
16 October: Wales (H) - Nations League
15 November: Northern Ireland (H) Friendly
19 November: Denmark (A) - Nations League Mobile mundo (talk) 18:29, 5 February 2018 (UTC)
Republic of Ireland are in a three team group, meaning two Nations League dates are free for friendlies. The NL is not a complete replacement for friendlies. Red Jay (talk) 18:49, 5 February 2018 (UTC)
CIeveIand13 (talk) 02:44, 13 September 2018 (UTC)Correct. Most Nations League teams will schedule a friendly on a Nations League matchday that they are not playing in. It does seriously decrease number of friendlies, however, but does not completely replace them

Match Results
editCIeveIand13 (talk) 02:45, 13 September 2018 (UTC)I am considering putting in Match Results for every Nations League game. Would this be a bit much, or do you think it would be benificial?
- @CIeveIand13: All the relevant results can be found at 2018–19 UEFA Nations League and its sub-articles. S.A. Julio (talk) 04:03, 13 September 2018 (UTC)

Groups
editAre the groups linked to each other? So will the winner of League B Group 2 be promoted to League A Group 2 are they to be drawn from pots each season? Xenomorph1984 (talk) 17:40, 13 October 2018 (UTC)
- New draw each season. -Koppapa (talk) 06:03, 14 October 2018 (UTC)
Should this article include the rules used to rank teams with the same number of points (goal difference/goals scored/head-to-head/fifa ranking etc.)? Nick Barnett (talk) 22:06, 15 November 2020 (UTC)

"It is basically a friendly trophy"
editThe reference used here does not mention at any point that this tournament is a friendly trophy or anything toward that. It replaces friendlies to some extent but it's a stretch to call this a friendly tournament because of that — Preceding unsigned comment added by 122.53.130.218 (talk) 08:37, 10 June 2019 (UTC)

"Seasons" new 2022 format
editOn the UNL 2020-2021 regulations (https://www.uefa.com/MultimediaFiles/Download/Regulations/uefaorg/Regulations/02/62/75/85/2627585_DOWNLOAD.pdf) there is a National Team match calendar until the end of 2022 on page 50 and it appears the group stage of UNL 2022-2023 was rescheduled by UEFA to June 2022 (4 matches) and September 2022 (2 matches). Should the section "Seasons" in this article be updated? It currently says: "Each season of the UEFA Nations League will be played from September to November of an even-numbered year (pool stage)". --SimoneMLK (talk) 09:45, 14 October 2019 (UTC)
"Adjustment starting from 2020–21"
editIs the reference to 'suspension of relegation' correct? I can't find any reference to this elsewhere. 89.125.125.179 (talk) 15:02, 19 November 2020 (UTC)
All-time table
editThe all-time table for League A might be a good addition, but I don't think it's appropriate that it combines results from the group stage and from the finals. --Theurgist (talk) 20:22, 29 September 2022 (UTC)
- Do we even have a source on the all-time table, or is it entirely synthesized? I did a cursory Google search and didn't see anything show up other than this article and worldfootball.net Jay eyem (talk) 04:00, 30 September 2022 (UTC)
All time top scorers list
editNow we've had three cycles, this would be a worthwhile addition. Only one global table needed, as I think standard of opponent etc is all relative and proportionate. Unfortunately I do not have the technical prowess to add this table. Thanks CharlieA (talk) 09:30, 2 October 2022 (UTC)
About Nations League Logo
editNations League logo on the page is stale, but the flag on the logo was supposed to be a moving flag loop as shown on Nations League computer main webpage and explanations about its conception on Behance.
Is there any way to change the logo for a version where the flag moves? It would go aganist wiki rules? Meganinja202 (talk) 04:47, 18 October 2022 (UTC)
Question
editWhy there is no list about the broadcasters of UEFA Nations League? 2A02:587:6D58:8800:F482:9811:F12D:B531 (talk) 16:07, 8 September 2024 (UTC)
Seasons
editThe section, "Seasons", says the group stages are played in the first half of the season, and the playoffs in the second half, "meaning a UEFA Nations League champion is crowned every two years". How does it follow that there's a champion crowned only every two years? 109.78.85.25 (talk) 20:23, 14 October 2024 (UTC)
(W) for Croatia
editI asked the same question here, but I guess this place will have better visibility.
Long story short, I believe that Croatia can no longer get relegated directly and therefore should be credited with a (W) in the standings.
Let's envision the worst case scenario for Croatia: Scotland win against Croatia in a decisive manner and have a better head-to-head while at the same time Poland beat Portugal.
- This would leave Croatia second at 7 points with a better head-to-head against Poland who also have 7 points and Scotland are fourth with 4 points.
In the last round, Poland and Scotland play each other.
- If Scotland win, all three teams end up on 7 points and Croatia have the best record among them.
- If Scotland fail to win, Croatia can't get worse than third.
Obviously Poland may not beat Portugal, leaving them at 4 or 5 points before their game versus Scotland who would have 4 with a win against Croatia.
- In such scenario, there are not enough points up for grabs in the last round for both Poland and Scotland to overtake Croatia.
Have I missed something?
Many thanks, Splićanin (talk) 22:01, 16 October 2024 (UTC)
