Notability
editIs this project notable enough on its own right? I think lots of BOINC projects are in Wikipedia and shouldn't be... 190.189.230.31 (talk) 02:59, 8 November 2009 (UTC)
Move from UFluids@Home to μFluids@Home
editVoting
edit- Weak support. As someone pointed out on WP:RM, this will appear as "ΜFluids@Home" with an uppercase mu in category listings and if you view the page with the redirect link the like. However, using a lowercase mu rather than an uppercase mu will work fine in links such as µFluids@Home or μFluids@Home. That's much better than having to link to the wrong initial letter using "u" or "U", which would only encourage the use of that letter in the visible text. I don't think it is necessary to create a redirect from the micro sign version to the lowercase mu version; they may look identical in many fonts, but they are separate characters. However, with initial caps turned on, the uppercase Μ (U+039C) is considered the uppercase version of both µ (U+00B5) and μ (U+03BC). But if it is ever written out as "microFluids@Home" or that starting with a capital em or some other alternate name without the @ sign that should probably be the Wikipedia title? Strong Oppose UFluids is far closer than MFluids to μFluids. Of course, if links to UFluids are to look correct, they should be in the form: [[UFluids@Home|µFluids@Home]], i.e. µFluids@Home --Lox (t,c) 09:11, 9 January 2006 (UTC)
- You do realize that an unpiped link to µFluids@Home is now redirected to this article, don't you? What you see on the title line when viewing the page isn't near as important as what you see in the text of other articles. Nobody ever uses a capital U to stand for micro, so that's no better looking than a capital mu (Μ) on the title page. By changing the title, that µFluids@Home link would be a direct link, not only not cluttering up the edit page but also safe from tinkering with by those editors who just can't stand to leave a redirect in place. BTW, my support is only "weak" in the sense that if theres a sensible spelled out option avoiding the initial symbol, and maybe the @ sign as well, I'd prefer that but unless somebody has anything to suggest along those lines, I'd strongly support the proposal.Gene Nygaard 09:39, 9 January 2006 (UTC)
No vote for now, following comments from Gene Nygaard. Please see discussion! --Lox (t,c) 11:00, 9 January 2006 (UTC)

editNote that if it is moved, if the proponent doesn't do it, I would create a redirect from MFluids@Home linking to ΜFluids@Home (one redlink and one bluelink as I post this) for those who have seen the title and like User:Lox don't realize the em (M) and mu (Μ) are different letters (try find on this page for the English M, which will find Lox's version). - Regardless of were the page ends up, a link from english M (MFluids@Home) would be greatly appreciated, thanks! --Lox (t,c) 11:00, 9 January 2006 (UTC)
- I've created a redirect at (english M) MFluids@Home --Lox (t,c) 10:33, 11 January 2006 (UTC)
From what Gene Nygaard has written, it seems that other possibility may be microFluids@Home, which I would favour over µFluids@Home. Are there any objections to a change to move options? --Lox (t,c) 11:00, 9 January 2006 (UTC)
- I'd like to move it, but could you finally agree on something? ;) —Nightstallion (?) 08:00, 10 January 2006 (UTC)
- Sorry, I've changed my vote, can this please be moved to μFluids@Home as initially requested. Thanks for your help! --Lox (t,c) 20:48, 10 January 2006 (UTC)
Moved. You should change the WrongNameTemplate to something regarding capitalization, since the article title is now semi-correct. ;) —Nightstallion (?) 07:31, 11 January 2006 (UTC)
