Collision with Sirdhana
editGeneral William Mitchell seems to have accidentally rammed the British India Steam Navigation Company liner Sirdhana in Yokohama on 26 November 1960. There are photographs online of the damage to Sirdhana's hull and superstructure amidships. However, authoritative sources such as the Naval History and Heritage Command website, and Duncan Haws' BI volume of his "Merchant Fleets" series detailing every ship in BI's fleet, do not mention it. Nor have I found news reports from that time, either in The New York Times, or in newspapers digitised on Australia's Trove website or the National Library of New Zealand's "Papers Past" website.
I have added the incident to the MV Sirdhana article, as clearly that ship was rammed, but I have not yet added it to the USS General William Mitchell article, as websites published by private enthusiasts are not the most authoritative source to verify that it was General William Mitchell that did it.
I have exhausted my usual sources of research. I would be grateful if a Wikipedian who has a better idea of where to search were to find a source to verify whether it was General William Mitchell that collided with Sirdhana. And if so, please will you add it to the troop ship's article? Thankyou! Motacilla (talk) 08:38, 15 January 2024 (UTC)
