The La Harve was used at Naval School of Diving and Salvage in Washington DC, until 1980, as the Salvage project. It was intentionally sunk in a small slew in the Potomac river, with its main deck above water.
The task for each class was to find the holes and patch its hull, then pump out water until she floated.
She was floated for the last time in 1980 right before dive school moved to Florida.
We were told at the time that she would be towed to open ocean and be used as target practice for Naval Aviation.
