Number of deaths

edit

According to this, 165 men were killed, not 7. Drutt (talk) 15:32, 5 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Negative. I know that some published reports say this, but my (living) grandfather was on the ship when it exploded and still has a copy of the official report somewhere, complete with pictures of the ship, its crew, and the funeral service.--Flash176 (talk) 22:56, 5 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
Where did the 165 figure come from? Drutt (talk) 00:07, 6 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
I have no idea, wish I knew. I even saw it in a book at Barnes & Noble several years ago. In fact, I asked my grandfather after that to make sure I didn't remember wrong, and he said no, there were only a few guys killed. Typical Navy foul-up, probably.--Flash176 (talk) 00:33, 6 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
  • For those wishing to contest the figure of 7 Sailors dead, please read the letters at the bottom of this page.

Pronunciation guide

What is the a-umlaut supposed to mean? Could we have a pronunciation guide in IPA? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 60.240.145.232 (talk) 11:51, 9 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

not scrapped? armed ammo during movement?

edit

Curious why the vessel was not scrapped and the metal purchased by a steelworks? Also, did a hedgehog mortar have an arming mechanism - seems particularly dangerous in handling if no 'safety' was in the design?50.111.23.84 (talk) 18:59, 18 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
