Reduce haziness?

edit

Do UV filters really reduce haziness or fogginess in general photography? If so, why can't most people tell the difference, as it says later in the article? My recollection is that UV filtering is much more useful for film, and then only with certain types of film. We need some references. Steve Pucci | talk 04:52, 16 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

I edited this page and tried to reduce the implication that UV filtering affects visible light, but I'm still not comfortable with the first paragraph. Steve Pucci | talk 05:06, 16 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Steve Pucci is right about reducing haziness because most film and digital is insensitive to UV now. The articles has been updated to reflect this but there is still no reference link.119.224.13.61 (talk) 11:58, 29 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

I'm not sure if this article is meant to be photography-specific, but there are a number of other applications for UV light filtering, such as preservational/archival uses. Just thought I'd mention that.24.173.40.233 18:46, 28 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

UV(a), UV(b) & UV(c) What's the difference?

What's the difference between UV(a), UV(b) & UV(c) filters? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 58.7.185.41 (talk) 08:12, 1 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

Lead image

edit

When I uploaded the lead image the article was mostly about photographic UV filters. It's now dominated with coverage of general UV blocking substances for e.g. swimming pools and organic protection. Someone might like to dig through Commons for a picture of sunblock, or a sunscreen, or something similar. -Ashley Pomeroy (talk) 22:50, 19 September 2019 (UTC)Reply

Lenses vs Chemical Filters

edit

So, this article starts out focusing on UV lenses as applied to photography, then midway through switches to a densely technical explanation of chemical reactions occurring in sunscreens and the like. It seems to me this could be two separate pages, but I'm definitely not an expert on that. Anyone else want to weigh in? — Preceding unsigned comment added by LittleChongsto (talkcontribs) 19:24, 21 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

I think a good solution might be a new page: UV filter (photography). There is a page for Photographic filter#Clear and ultraviolet that links to this page as if this would be a more detailed description of a UV lens filter. This page could work as the most generalized UV filter page and it could link to more specific types of filters like Sunscreen and Safelight as necessary. Or we could simply link UV filter (photography) straight to Photographic filter#Clear and ultraviolet and remove the main article link on that page. Mikehain (talk) 01:25, 14 February 2020 (UTC)Reply
