Power cars

43019 was written off in the crash – can we find a WP:RS to support this? I can find plenty of mentions on web forums but no RSs. Likewise, it seems that 43029 went back into service, given some Flickr photos, but again no RSs. MIDI (talk) 11:38, 25 August 2023 (UTC)

Source found for 43019. MIDI (talk) 12:07, 25 August 2023 (UTC)

Things to include, with reliable sources

  • as removed from the article: "[the car was] with the handbrake fully applied and the steering on a partial left-hand turn (which was not consistent with driving across the crossing)"
  • The Mazda's engine block was what got caught under the leading car's axle and caused the initial derailment (Non-RS: [1])
  • The train guard/manager left the train to use the emergency phone at the crossing, only to find it did not work; in actuality, the crash had severed the lines which ran parallel to the tracks (Non-RS: [2])
  • That 43029 went back into service—dates? When was it named Caldicot Castle? (April 2023 photo nr Dawlish)
  • When did 43029 go back into service? (2006 speculation that it was then at Laira)

  • WP:OR: the A4 west of the crash site is dual carriageway. I remember the westbound carriageway was closed for use by authorities for days/weeks after the crash and a contraflow was put in place on the eastbound carriageway. Suspect we won't find a source for this but if we do it might be worth adding as part of the last paragraph in the "Aftermath" subsection. MIDI (talk) 09:15, 9 September 2023 (UTC)
