Please tell me that I'm not mentally deficient...
editErm.. well, ah... I've had this suspicion that Ben might have had powers when he was a kid, because, you know, he knew the whole "power=responsibility" thing, and he told all that to Peter. Just a thought. Xiaoxiaoman9 00:33, 12 April 2007 (UTC)
I'm guessing this isn't the guy with the rice. Bastie 21:16, 24 August 2005 (UTC)
In fact, Uncle Ben's only phrases in whole Earth-616 Marvel Comics are "you are not fooling me, Petey! I know you are awake, and it is time for school!" and "don't fatten him too much, dear! I can hardly outwrestle him now!" (both page 2).
Uncle Ben should redirect to the guy with the rice. 194.97.161.239 18:34, 27 July 2006 (UTC)
Not true. He has made numerous other appearances.

Notability
editThis section is clumsily written, and confusing, maybe the first sentence should be removed altogether.
In fact, if one includes the Ultimate Marvel rebooted continuity, Uncle Ben is the only one to have stayed dead across all major continuities. However, with both Jason Todd and Bucky returning recently, this leaves Uncle Ben as the only one.

editIn Amazing S-Man II#37-38, the phrase "With Great..." is attributed to Ben Parker, in a Stracyznski written issue.
In the recent Hydra/Ogalalla storyline by Stracyznski, May states that Ben was an MP and saw Captain America "during the war". The sliding timescale makes this problematic. 21:27, 22 November 2006 (UTC)~Enda80
- The sliding time scale makes pretty much the entire Marvel Universe problematic. I have no problem with Ben meeting Captain American during 'the war' Lots42 03:58, 23 September 2007 (UTC)
- And to expand on that, almost all characters that don't have their origin directly tied into a specific war (Cap in WWII, Punisher in Vietnam), every other character gets referenced as a veteran of "a war" or "the war." It's also worth noting that several men have taken up the mantle of Captain America, and one of the first issues of Punisher: War Journal volume 2 puts forth the theory that MANY men have worn the Cap costume as part of basic training and various other military activities. Alternate Versions
editThis article is laid out really weird. I think the alternate versions should be collected under one section called 'Alternate Versions'.
Which should include the alternate universe limited series called '(Something) Bullet' where a very young Uncle Ben is killed in an assasination attempt on the scientist who created Captain America.
What's the full name of that limited series anyway?
More suggestions
editThere's a lot more to Uncle Ben's history then what we see. We've seen him with May to literally pick up Parker from the child service's agency. We've seen him comfort May when Peter breaks his arm. We know some about his millitary history (he spent some time after the war officially ended helping confront Japanese millitary forces). In my humble opinion, this stuff is noteworthy.
I'd usually add this kind of stuff in myself but I think it calls for a much bigger expert then I. Lots42 03:57, 23 September 2007 (UTC)
Arguable First Appearance
editIf no one objects, within the next couple days I'll be removing the speculation of Uncle Ben appearing prior to Amazing Fantasy #15. The only source is speculation from an editor in a re-print, and until Stan, Steve or someone from Marvel does a flat out confirm/deny, it shouldn't be in the article. Notthegoatseguy 14:51, 21 October 2007 (UTC)
Hey! I object! Just because it is arguable whether it is officially part of the Marvel Universe, that deserves to be in there. This is not just an in-universe article! 69.210.105.240 (talk) —Preceding comment was added at 21:41, 16 February 2008 (UTC)
Fair use rationale for Image:Ben parker.jpg
editImage:Ben parker.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Wait a tic...
editUncle Ben is the most well-known character to stay dead after being "killed" in all continuancies, with the exceptions of him surviving the attack, or not being shot at all. But I think there are more people than just Ben who's been dead all these years. I've been reading my old comics, and I think there are actually four characters who haven't come back. They are: 1. Uncle Ben 2. Gwen Stacey 3 + 4: Bruce Wayne's parents.
I know, I know. I sound incredibly stupid and noobish from my tone. But give it some thought, huh? I mean, the last time I heard about Gwen or her father was when Spider-Man donated the money (that mob-guy gave him to protect from Digger) to make the memorial Gwen Stacey Library. Bruce's parents? There's been one attemp I remember, from the Tower of Bable, where Ras Al Ghul sought to revive the Knight's parents. Ben? the article says it all. But seriously. Please give my thoughts a little time, and just not blatently lable it as OR. Please? Stormfin (talk) 02:12, 26 February 2008 (UTC)

Alternate Versions
editBen was cloned (and then shot) in a Deadpool special of some name. I think this is (with refs) noteable enough to add. Lots42 (talk) 03:45, 24 February 2010 (UTC)
Problem with Voltaire attribution
editThe "With great power comes great responsibility" phrase has been attributed to Voltaire, but I can't find anything like it on the page that has now been provided. Could someone with better French check the page or can user:Spidey104 quote the relevant text? Œuvres de Voltaire, Volume 48 p486 Cheers Grim23★ 19:33, 11 November 2011 (UTC)
- If you check the edit history I was NOT the editor to initially enter that information. I have only reverted edits that changed it when those edits appeared to be more vandalism than anything else. I am not against the removal of the Voltaire information, but it should have an accompanying edit summary that shows it's not some random editor vandalizing the article. Spidey 104 02:56, 17 November 2011 (UTC)
- I see you thought you were reverting vandalism, but if a respected editor restores information it helps dubious information look more legitimate. It seems someone has persitantly tried to perpetrate this hoax, it wouldn't surprise me if the ip which edited without leaving a summary was a strawman sock. As you have no objections I have removed the text. All the best, Grim23★ 12:44, 17 November 2011 (UTC)
- Added exclamation point to the Amazing Fantasy #15 quote, cf http://pah2.golding.id.au/images/AF15originfinal.jpg 50.9.53.111 (talk) 23:37, 30 November 2012 (UTC)
Ben and May on the night of the shooting
editThis part of the article is confusing, probably because the original story never actually shows the critical moments and later retellings sometimes ignored one another. IIRC there's a flashback panel in Amazing Spider-Man #1 that shows May looking horrified as a gun is shot, but otherwise I think it wasn't until #200 (unless there was an early What If that showed it) that showed the first detailed flashback with the shooting inside the house as Ben rushed to protect May. The "they had an argument and Ben stormed outside where he get shot" revelation came in a much later telling. Timrollpickering (talk) 16:21, 27 May 2012 (UTC)
