The contents of the Underground home page were merged into Underground living on 2013-12-20 and it now redirects there. For the contribution history and old versions of the merged article please see its history. |
explanation of edits
editI re-wrote the article due to a lack of souces and seemingly arbitrary numbers. I removed the links:
because they do not actually talk about underground houses except the last one perhaps. they all seem to be people who fancy themselves to be hobbits. also a section on folklore and the like would be suiting. I also propose this article be merged with yaodong and renamed 'Subterranean dwellings' as this would allow a slightly broader definition. If there are any code wizards out there who would be kind enough to set up the redirecting. I will try to do more as I have time. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Craobh sidhe (talk • contribs) 19:21, 1 May 2008
- Thanks for the rewrite. On the whole, it's an improvement. Concerning the links, I do feel that the dwellings they describe qualify as underground homes. They are homes that are under the ground, therefore they are underground homes. I've re-added the links accordingly, though it may come to pass that they fail WP:EL for other reasons.
- I agree that a section on folklore could be suitable. I think I remember something about the fey living beneath the hills in Celtic mythology, which appears to be borne out by Fairy#Sources_of_beliefs.
- As for merging with yaodong, I think yaodong is a large enough article to not need a merge. Perhaps though it could be given its own section with a short description, linking to the Yaodong article, like this:
Yaodong
editA yaodong (窰洞) is a dugout used as an abode or shelter in China. Yaodongs are common in north China, especially on the Loess Plateau. The history of yaodongs goes back to time immemorial, and continues today.
- This article seems to have a lot of overlap with Underground living, so if there needs to be a merge, I think that's probably where it should be.
- I think "subterranean dwelling" is just a fancier way of saying "underground home", so I don't see the need to move it. But I wouldn't object to it. -kotra (talk) 21:03, 1 May 2008 (UTC)
Proposed Merger

- Time to close discussion. Merged to Underground living as per below. -- P 1 9 9 ✉ 18:22, 20 December 2013 (UTC)
I noticed that the article Underground living deals with virtually identical subject matter as Underground home so I propose that the article Underground living be merged into Underground home. Other things that might support this merger is that Underground house is a redirect to Underground living. The only thing that I can think of that might make such a merger bad would be that there might be miners who live occasionally in mines and hence this subject matter would be akin to Underground living, but not perhaps Underground home. Also although I think these two should be merged I'm not 100% sure that Underground living be merged into Underground home and not vis versa. I'll think about it some more.Chhe (talk) 05:17, 6 December 2010 (UTC)
- I think that a merge would be a good plan for these two articles, but perhaps going the other way—Underground home into Underground living. Either way, it will contribute to article development. All is One (talk) 20:34, 6 December 2010 (UTC)
