UKeSA not the official governing body

edit

UKeSA are not the "official" governing body for eSports in the UK. This is claim they make for themselves, they are not acknowledged by any other eSports organisation as being their official governing body. The references on this page to 3rd party sites are simply reporting UKeSA's claim, they are not evidence that the claim is valid.

Reference 1. CVG describes UKeSA as "an official" implying not the only one. No-one denies they are the official governing body for their own tournaments, but that doesn't mean they are the official governing body for anyone else's.

Reference 2. Be Broadband - These are sponsors of UKeSA, so they may have a vested interest in promoting UKeSA as "official".

Reference 3. Arm3D - simply quotes Ray Mia making the claim.

Reference 4. insidethegames - This article is about promoting Poker as an olypmic sport, and within it it mentions UKeSA in connection with a quote from Ray Mia, who also supports Poker as an Olypmic sport. The reference to "official governing body" appears to be simply to explain who Ray Mia is and lend wait to his support for this cause, quite what this has to do with online gaming, and the statius of UKeSA I've no idea.

It doesn't look as if any of the sources cited meet the criteria of WP:Reliable sources. It can very difficult to find such sources for video gaming. Jezhotwells (talk) 18:51, 7 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
If that's the case, then the CGS Wiki page would fall under the non-WP:Reliable sources category as most of the references link to the CGS website (which does exist anymore) and the last reference is sourced to a opinionated article. Anyways, the word "official" was taken out as that was the offending word that some people had a problem with. Ryoga3099 (talk) 02:57, 9 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

There is no evidence of UKESA being either official or governing anything at this point, the original author refuses any reasonable changes that were made and actually works for the group that owns and manages UKESA, none of the sources he has cited are reliable, and most of this wiki is more advertisement than informative. I am not sure this is written from a neutral point of view and other users are unable to make reasonable changes, so it will probably remain inaccurate.Boginsbear (talk) 03:06, 15 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Now that they have been accepted as a member of the International eSports Federation, does that mean that can be recognised as the official governing body for the United Kingdom? Ryoga3099 (talk) 00:56, 21 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Your account appears to be a single purpose account for editing articles related to X-League/TNWA Group/UKeSA. All your edits have been related to either this article/X-League or game articles linking to X-League reviews. Personally from my experience having worked for TNWA Group I would say that UKeSA are not an official governing body and should not be listed as such as they lack the support of any major indepdendent gaming leagues/competitions in the UK. Assessment as of 2009-07-03

edit

Alright, rating this C class for the following reasons:

  • The article is pretty nicely referenced, but there are still a few paragraphs being overlooked at this time.
  • You should avoid direct links within the body of the text itself. Use references if you need to link to those sites (the Membership section being the biggest example).
  • More than a few of the sections are one paragraph: try to expand these, or alternatively combine them with other sections. For example, the Structure section doesn't really need all those mini sections, it'll get the point across smoother without them.

All in all it's off to a good start. Keep at it.--Kung Fu Man (talk) 07:41, 3 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

UKeSA? Project Gamerz?

edit

UKeSA? Project Gamerz? Both are same organisation? or distinct? then, which one is official 'UK eSports' Association? it's so confused. --Dmthoth (talk) 15:50, 18 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

Project Gamerz is run by the Rotherhithe branch of The Metropolitan Police and is a project setup to help the community and its youth. UKeSA and Project Gamerz are not the same organisation. Ryoga3099 (talk) 10:28, 4 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Company bankrupt?

edit

According to http://www.cadred.org/News/Article/88207/ and a few other news articles - this company filed to bankruptcy back in 2009. Their website is dead and has been for months.

It's now factually inaccurate and probably needs massive pruning to state what it was instead of the page describing in detail how it works. Sudo make me a sandwich (talk) 00:07, 16 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Agreed. Will need links to support this. However, does linking sources from Company House (official UK government register of UK companies) act as primary sources or secondary? Ryoga3099 (talk) 10:05, 21 November 2010 (UTC)Reply
After a bit of research, it looks like United Kingdom eSports Association is still up and running according to the government company registration house, Company House. http://wck2.companieshouse.gov.uk/e0318e4dcd9fcaa850c524f77aa455d6/compdetails
However, it looks like they are not part of the IeSF anymore since they are not listed on the IeSF website. 81.106.98.159 (talk) 19:29, 28 November 2010 (UTC)Reply
