"The first court under the sovereignty of the US"
editWas the Court of Appeals in Cases of Capture, which sat from 1780. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Court_of_Appeals_in_Cases_of_Capture. Not the District court in New York City.Mikedelsol (talk) 10:16, 28 July 2016 (UTC)
Query
editIs there a reason why the former judges don't have the information about who nominated them to the court?--Cdogsimmons (talk) 17:19, 9 April 2008 (UTC)
Courthouse location
editI am pretty sure SDNY is at the Monihan courthouse at 500 pearl. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 128.59.182.15 (talk) 16:28, 28 January 2009 (UTC)
- The image posted is not correct. The image depicts the Second Circuit building at 40 Centre Street, not the Monihan building at 500 Pearl. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.215.166.223 (talk) 01:23, 11 June 2013 (UTC)
- With the renovation project in Foley Square completed, there are now Southern District judges at both locations. Newyorkbrad (talk) 09:05, 10 January 2014 (UTC)
Vacancies
editThe article states there are no vacancies at present, but the seat cuccession table shows seat 10 vacant? Does that need to be corrected (if not maybe explained?) Sejtam (talk) 03:55, 10 January 2014 (UTC)
- I've updated the chart. Seat 10 is now filled by Judge Caprioni. Thanks for catching this. Newyorkbrad (talk) 09:12, 10 January 2014 (UTC)
Map of jurisdiction
editIt would be nice if the article had a map of the area of jurisdiction. Bubba73 You talkin' to me? 17:42, 12 December 2018 (UTC)
Sam Bankman-Fried in notable cases - include yet?
editUnder Notable cases, one of the bullets says: "Financial frauds have been prosecuted in the S.D.N.Y., among them the cases against Bernard Madoff, Ivan Boesky, Michael Milken, and Sam Bankman-Fried." Do we want to include Bankman-Fried at this point? There's been an indictment, but he hasn't been prosecuted yet for the crimes. Hannahthom7 (talk) 15:41, 18 April 2023 (UTC)

Zubulake v. UBS Warburg
editZubulake v. UBS Warburg should be listed among notable cases due to its exceptional influence on law concerning electronic discovery obligations 2600:480A:39F1:9800:A586:43BC:A5FA:236 (talk) 16:46, 1 June 2024 (UTC)
Mata v. Avianca INC
editI believe that Mata v. Avianca should be listed as a notable case due to the large amount of press coverage it got and the implications it has for lawyers wanting to use A.I. to help them with brief writing. The presiding Judge was the Hon. P. Kevin Castel. Itisi5 (talk) 02:04, 25 September 2024 (UTC)
