Actual Status ?

edit

" the organization has no official or funding ties to the Academy or the U.S. Navy."

Has this status been this way for the whole lifetime of USNI? Many USNI books have been used by United States Naval Academy as textbooks for courses at the Academy. It may be a matter of convenience; need a textbook, professors notes only need minor additional work to become a textbook, then where do you go for printer / publisher? Also, on occasions, material is extracted from official, public domain US Navy documents, training or other manuals for USNI published books. --24.245.106.83 (talk) 22:10, 11 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

uncited "Banned"

edit

A few days ago, I put a cite needed tag on this sentence: "The magazine has been known to address controversial and contentious issues, resulting in it being banned by the military on a few occasions." Stithians78 has replaced the tag with a citation that does not support the sentence. (It might support this sentence: "In 1962, DoD officials prevented a Marine Corps lieutenant colonel from sending to Proceedings an article about a 1949 proposal to merge the Marines' aviation units into the Air Force.") Unless better citations are forthcoming, I'm going to delete the uncited assertion. PRRfan (talk) 18:14, 22 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

On second thought, I've gone ahead and edited to preserve the citation and more accurately reflect what happened. PRRfan (talk) 18:18, 22 January 2014 (UTC)Reply
