Merging of "nationals" "Spring Nationals" and "SC Nationals"
edit- The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section. A summary of the conclusions reached follows.
- To not merge the 3 articles. Klbrain (talk) 03:28, 9 May 2016 (UTC)
I recommend that these three pages be merged:
- United States Swimming National Championships
- United States Spring Swimming Championships
- United States Short Course Swimming Championships
All 3 meets really are pretty much just "Nationals", in different courses (long course, short course) or seasons (Spring, Summer). The pages are really just section sizes at this point. Currently the 3 pages seem to exist due to sponsoring agreements that USA Swimming has, despite the actual reality of what the meet is. Also, the noteworthy sponsorship of Phillips 66 (now ConocoPhillips) in hosting the US Swimming nationals since 1973 is now split onto 2 of these pages (when at the time, the meet was just one) and not mentioned on either. And USA Swimming only has a "Nationals" category on their own website. -- Hooperswim (talk) 00:07, 16 March 2012 (UTC)
- Three years late but I'll still answer: I'm not convinced this would be an improvement. Currently the articles maybe still be small enough to be merged, but there is a lot of room for expansion in each of the articles. Mostly in terms of adding lists of medalists championships records. With those additions, the articles would be too long when merged. Even right now, I don't think the articles are too short, except for United States Spring Swimming Championships which is the worst developed one. Gap9551 (talk) 21:43, 12 October 2015 (UTC)
Oppose on the ground that there material on each page is distinct and the all but one of the articles is not too short. Klbrain (talk) 03:28, 9 May 2016 (UTC)
1972 Nationals location
editIn 2014 a comment was added to the Venue list questioning the 1972 location. Both locations are unsourced, and I can't find a source for this year. The US Olympic trials were held in Chicago (see [1]) but it's not clear whether they doubled as Nationals. For now I left the 1972 location blank until someone is able to fill in the correct location. Gap9551 (talk) 21:43, 26 June 2017 (UTC)
