New image
editThere is actually a color version of Humphrey's official portrait (this is NOT a colorization to my knowledge), found in the personal collection of Rufus Youngblood (the Secret Service agent who shielded Johnson during Kennedy's assassination). Given that the consensus image of Humphrey has been deleted, I think this would make a good replacement. While it might not be perfect, it is better than either a black and white photo (which would be inconsistent with the color photos of Nixon and Wallace) or just a random photo of Humphrey giving a speech. Should we hold a vote to build community consensus?

- Support inclusion of the color portrait of Humphreys. If Nixon and Wallace are in color, it doesn't make sense to use a black and white photo of Humphreys where a near-identical color portrait is available. I T B F 💬 05:51, 1 August 2024 (UTC)
- Should we hold a vote on whether to use this image? If so I say Support. Helloguyswhatisup (talk) 15:32, 1 August 2024 (UTC)
- Oppose If we put this photo in we might as well nixon's photo since it's color is terrible. Also only having one option does not work. Qutlooker (talk) 15:32, 1 August 2024 (UTC)
- Oppose. The coloring on the image and make it look like one of those AI colorized images that were used before the colored images were implanted for the article. A better image should be used for Humphrey. HistorianL (talk) 20:22, 1 August 2024 (UTC)
- This was used temporarily until "consensus needed" was argued Qutlooker (talk) 20:26, 1 August 2024 (UTC)
- @HistorianL If you want to argue consensus, write your argument here if you are going to revert my edits without engaging in a discussion for new Humphrey image. Qutlooker (talk) 03:50, 6 August 2024 (UTC)
- As I have reiterated several times, there is zero evidence that this is AI colorized. The Secret Service agent whose collection I found this photo from died in 1996 (presumably before the invention of such technology). Besides, the website has both B&W and color photos. I think you might be confusing it with File:Hubert Humphrey Portrait Colorized.jpg (which was legitimately AI colorized), however a major difference is that in the AI version the flag in the background is not colored in properly. - I would use File:Hubert Humphrey Portrait Colorized.jpg. I frankly don't think it matters that it is AI. It looks real and the other pictures are pretty bad Leikstjórinn (talk) 00:00, 7 August 2024 (UTC)
- There are plenty of better photos that don’t use AI that can be used. Qutlooker (talk) 02:27, 7 August 2024 (UTC)

- Strong Support, anything would be better than what we currently have. Hubert isn't even looking at the camera, probably didn't even know he was being photographed ClovisBarnhopper (talk) 23:16, 10 September 2024 (UTC)
- How about this for Nixon for a change? The quality is better!
Dhantegge (talk) 01:57, 11 August 2024 (UTC)
- I personally support the last of these three, Humphrey 1968 headshot.jpg. It was literally the official headshot taken for his 1968 campaign, and there would be no qualms about whether it was AI coloured / had been coloured on a computer. Dhantegge (talk) 02:01, 11 August 2024 (UTC)
- This discussion is for a Humphrey image, not for Nixon. Also I should not that AI color photos have been ruled out via multiple discussions. Qutlooker (talk) 02:17, 11 August 2024 (UTC)
- With respect, the ruling out of AI colour photos is difficult to tell form the above conversation. Dhantegge (talk) 07:04, 13 August 2024 (UTC)
- If you check archives on this page you’d see editors have not liked the use of AI coloring. And with the top photo’s origin unclear means we should find other photos. Qutlooker (talk) 15:53, 13 August 2024 (UTC)
- I really like the image of Nixon I suggested. To me it seems obviously better than the other - that one's colour is poor and it's of lower resolution. Dhantegge (talk) 06:16, 14 August 2024 (UTC)
- Please see previous discussions regarding the Nixon photo. Qutlooker (talk) 00:45, 17 August 2024 (UTC)
- The origin of the top photo is clear though, it's from the personal collection of a distinguished Secret Service agent Helloguyswhatisup (talk) 12:52, 14 August 2024 (UTC)

Update needed
editUpdate needed to this passage to reflect Kamala Harris nomination.
After 1968, the only way to win the party's presidential nomination became through the primary process; Humphrey turned out to be the last nominee of either major party to win his party's nomination without having directly competed in the primaries. Interestingly, this remains the most recent presidential election in which the incumbent president was not nominated for a presidential term despite being eligible, and the only such election to occur after the Twenty-second Amendment came into effect. Demographic subgroup section
editWhat are the units in the The 1968 presidential vote by demographic subgroup table? It seems like percentage because each row almost adds up to 100, but there are oddities like the Women row adding up to 104. Typo? Or maybe I am missing something obvious? The section also does not cite a source so I can't go in and try to verify. Batsarentbugs (talk) 13:26, 11 September 2024 (UTC)
