Merge

edit

No extra value or information in the article Private Universities of Bangladesh. Can comfortably be merged into List of universities in Bangladesh. - Aditya Kabir 04:07, 31 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Yes Aditya Kabir, I agree with you. I also think this is a manipulative article. So, I think, this article should be merged into List of Universities in Bangladesh. Confusedfarista (talk) 04:20, 9 March 2014 (UTC)Reply
The list of Universities in Bangladesh article needs to remain as is. There is a template for such articles (check Category:Lists of universities and colleges). The merge proposal WAS about merging a Private Universities of Bangladesh article (check here for it's last version before merger) into this article (Universities in Bangladesh). That has happened almost seven years back. Aditya(talkcontribs) 15:41, 9 March 2014 (UTC)Reply

Text shited from Private Universities of Bangladesh, can it be used in the article?

edit

In 1992, the Government of Bangladesh passed the Private Universities Act of 1992. This enabled the establishment of Private Universities in Bangladesh. Previously, only the Government was allowed to establish universities.

Among the very first and notable private universities are North South University, Independent University, Bangladesh, Asian University of Bangladesh(AUB), Darul Ihsan University, IUBAT.

In recent years, the number of private universities increased to more than 50. Unfortunately, most of them focused on profit rather than performance.

In 2004, the Education Ministry constituted a study of performance and evaluation of Private Universities of Bangladesh which recommended regulation and closure of several universities. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Aditya Kabir (talkcontribs)

WOW, I am impressed

edit

Each and every word written in the private university part is negative. As if private universities are just garbage and public universities are some thing very special! Even the best public university in Bangladesh (I do not want to mention the name) counts 4 years in 2190 days, lol. Well, with in a very short period I am going to add some negative points on public university, of course with proper references. I think it should be balanced :-). • Lot of criticism and controversial (political inelasticity and even murder case) issues have been arised among public universities in Bangladesh. They must be added. References can be found on those issues.--NAHID 12:04, 10 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Challenge

edit

Article related to private universities said,

  • 1: These universities are mostly affiliated with universities abroad. This is not true. These universities are aggregated with different foreign universities for student transfer purpose but not affiliated. All the universities established by Private University Act 1992 are affiliated by University Grant Commission Bangladesh and recognized by People's Republic of Bangladesh by law. They provide their own degree. Government of Bangladesh banned those institutions in Bangladesh that provide foreign degree in the name of Bangladeshi campus. Those universities are not private university in Bangladesh. This is unfortunate to have such information at wikipedia and I believe it will mislead neutral readers.
  • 2: Same section says, Others were found to deliver instructions in unauthorized courses and have illegal campuses. Here the use of the word other is intentional and vague. Respective reference shows those issues related to some private universities and never supported the word OTHER.
  • 3: Section is not well written. It should provide a brief picture on Private University in Bangladesh. Unfortunately it is intentionally written in a negative manner. All the negative facts are listed at random. It can be included with a separate section entitled criticism but not in the main description. Moreover, public university part hides all of its criticism. Prothom Alo reported on Dhaka University hall on 12 July 2007 and another issue on 19 July 2007. Daily Ittefaq reported on Dhaka University Admission where 16 students are found with faulty documents and few of them even didn't attend the admission test. So, those criticism should be included in the public university section. Aditya(talkcontribs) 08:07, 20 July 2007 (UTC)Reply
    • It was not put there to defile private universities. Since the information about particular universities were getting repeatedly deleted from the pages of respective universities, I put all that here. If you want to turn that into brilliant prose, please do.

Please defend my challenges otherwise I will rewrite them properly. Niaz(Talk • Contribs) 07:22, 20 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Were these challenges? These read like very nice criticism. Please, go ahead with rewriting work. The language obviously needs some improvement. But, please, do not remove information that is rererenced and cites proper sources. Aditya(talkcontribs) 08:07, 20 July 2007 (UTC)Reply
Bhaia, thanks for your quick reply. I don't have any intention to remove those references. I just figured out few words that I felt can be modified, such as the word other. It would be more appropriate if it was written as some other or like so. Otherwise, people may get a wrong picture on Private University in Bangladesh. There are few private universities that are really doing well. For an example, United International University. But most of them are actually profit oriented and a major cause of your Educational Pollution! So, those references are quite justified. Moreover, there should be a nice description on public universities as well. Those universities are related to our culture, liberation war and society. We should draw an appropriate picture there. It would be really nice if you also participate and contribute at this article not only with the references but also with preparing different sections with text and picture. Agreed to most of the points. One weird thing about the Pvt university articles here is that, many of them flaunt the names of other famous schools with whom they have accreditation or other agreements. So? That is perhaps a good PR move in the university brochure to lure students, but in an encyclopedic article, that looks quite bad. So, that should be removed or at least scaled down. It is just like creating a section in a biography on "this person is omuk's bhatija, and tomuk's bhaigna, and related to omuk by marriage", rather than what this person is.
As for information, if we just follow WP:V, WP:N, and WP:NPOV, we should be fine. Also, we should standardize the structure of univ articles. Since Rajshahi University is already an FA, we can model after that. --Ragib 09:58, 20 July 2007 (UTC)Reply
I do agree with Ragib Bhaia. We should remove accreditation section from all the private university articles unless it maintains accreditation/affiliation with any recognized organization, such as IUT's affiliation with OIC. If it is too harsh, at least we can make that section simple enough so that it doesn't contain any advertisement tone.
As Rajshahi University article became an FA, it can be used as a model article for the rest of the universities in Bangladesh. Moreover, US university articles that became FA can also be used as models. Regards, Niaz(Talk • Contribs) 12:56, 20 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

List of universities in <country name>

edit

List of universities in <country name> has became a standard article type and for most of the users it became a university search option. Such as,

and many more. Above articles give a clear and quick picture on universities of a country. But, unfortunately List of universities in Bangladesh is firstly redirected to a new page and also became a war page for the editors!

I want to reconstruct the List of universities in Bangladesh page. If anyone have any objection, please put it here. Niaz(Talk • Contribs) 15:33, 14 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
