Talk:University Athletic Association of the Philippines

Athletics or Athetic?

edit

The article says athletics, but the logo says athletic. Should the Article be renamed University Athletic Association of the Philippines?

Founding Members

edit

FEU is a founding member. Here's why:

The Big 3 as it was called became a success and on April 6, 1932, its Article of Agreement was renewed. It was also during this time that these three universities seceded from the NCAA. The big 3 continued for the next six years until the Board of Directors of the UP Alumni Association suggested to then UP President Jorge C. Bocobo that a new inter university athletic be instituted. Having taken initiative, first with the NCAA and then with the Big 3, it was only natural that the UP again take the reins of leadership to organize a university athletic association. The representatives of the three universities together with the Far Eastern University, which was already dominating the sports scene of the period, met at the PAAF Office. They formally organized the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) on September 27, 1938. From: http://www.uaapgames.com/uaaphistory.shtml

From the paragraph I concluded:

  1. NU, UP and UST seceded from the NCAA due to commercialization.
  2. ADMU, UP, DLSU and UST founded the Big Four league.
  3. The Big Three league was dissolved.
  4. The Big Three then referred to NU, UP and UST.
  5. FEU is not a part of the Big Three.
  6. The Big Three, together with FEU, founded the UAAP on September 27, 1938.

Move to University Athletic Association of the Philippines

edit

http://www.uaapgames.com/uaaphistory.shtml -> "The representatives of the three universities together with the Far Eastern University, which was already dominating the sports scene of the period, met at the PAAF Office. They formally organized the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) on September 27, 1938." -> only the header says "Athletics", but the rest of the articles (and even the logo on the site) refer to it as the University Athletic Association of the Philippines.

It was also brought up earlier that the UAAP logo itself said "Athletic" and not "Athletics". It may also help to know that "Athletics" usually refers to Track and Field events only. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 125.60.243.83 (talk) 11:54, 28 February 2007 (UTC).Reply

Fair use rationale for Image:Uaap logo.gif

Mass moving

edit

I'm planning to move all championship lists (like UAAP Basketball Champions into UAAP Basketball Championship in a couple of days. If you approve, you can do so yourself. If you disapprove, state your objection here. --Howard the Duck 09:16, 9 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Since nobody objected, I'll do the move now. --Howard the Duck 09:14, 13 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Rivalries

edit

Do not add non-UAAP events in the UAAP page, such as events between ADMU and DLSU in the NCAA unless for a little backgrounder. Any specific non-UAAP events shouldn't go here. And please, no POV edits. Make it neutral. --Howard the Duck 06:26, 17 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

About the 1991 men's basketball finals, it was game 3 that was replayed. I was present when the game 3 won by La Salle. It was the last points of Espinosa that won the game. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 124.106.179.235 (talk) 04:03, 10 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Reference to University of the Philippines

edit

Although UP Diliman represents UP in the UAAP, we should denote all UP's in the articles pertaining to the UAAP as "University of the Philippines" for uniformity. WE do not refer to "De La Salle University" here as "De La Salle University - Manila" and "University of the East" as "University of the East - Manila." Except of course, we put a note after such reference to the first years of UP being represented by "UP Manila." Aeron Valderrama (talk) 13:30, 1 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hi. Thanks to Philtro for making an SVG version of the logo. Can we update it though? The logo changes every year, in that the circle on the top of the logo sports the colors of the current host in a rotating pattern (which means that the logo should have the DLSU circle on top this year, and the Ateneo circle on top next year). Thanks! Rmcsamson (talk) 05:00, 17 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

I recently updated the image. Please take note that the colors of Ateneo in the UAAP logo is light blue and white (between NU and La Salle). Hosting is actually arranged as indicated at the UAAP Basketball Championship article, NU → Ateneo → La Salle → ...

I changed the colors. As per this (http://www.facebook.com/uaapseason73), Ateneo uses a darker blue compared to Adamson, so I guess this was just a question of placement. Besides, Ateneo's blue (ultramarine, which is close to the royal blue that they use) is closer to the color I'm using, and it does not use a shade that looks like sky blue. Adamson, on the other hand, does, at least based on their jerseys. But if this makes you uncomfortable, we can probably use a shade of blue that is closer to navy blue for Adamson. Rmcsamson (talk) 07:04, 8 May 2011 (UTC)Reply
I changed the logo again, this time basing the color of the Adamson circle on their Wikipedia article, which says "navy blue and white." Rmcsamson (talk) 07:12, 8 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

Philippine Christian University

I will revert the edits done as there has been no official word from the UAAP regarding changes in membership.

Brand Identity (to replace Seal section)

edit

Can we get a consensus on which term to use for the section, as this will tackle both the old seal and the new UAAP logo as part of the organization's brand identity? Will "Brand Identity" be OK then? Thus, we also need help with expanding this section to discuss the logo rebrand rationale and the outcome of the logo design contest or rebranding process, including a brief description of the new logo. Aeron Valderrama (talk) 20:05, 23 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

Just call it a "Logo" section and be done with it. Howard the Duck (talk) 20:22, 23 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

Concerning the UAAP logo on this article

edit

The current UAAP "sipa" logo which is appeared on this Wikipedia article actually turns out to be not a final and official logo of the league. The one in the article is only just a winning contest logo that will serve as a basis on its official logo. If you compare the winning contest logo and the official logo, they appeared to have very different colors. Here are some reliable sources where the official UAAP logo made its appearance:

From the February 25th press conference
From another press conference on March 23rd
Logo of the UAAP Varsity Channel
Promotional video of the UAAP Season 84
Offical UAAP account

136.158.7.48 (talk) 07:18, 31 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

It is because the logo, much like its predecessor, ALSO changes with the change in the host school. The winning logo as presented and as used here is like a template for the "changing" logo. So, we keep this winning logo in the article as it is the basis of a "changing" official logo, much as we keep a "version" of the former seal here. Aeron Valderrama (talk) 13:23, 5 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
Oh I see. But can you provide where did you get that source? I am curious to know if what are you saying is true. 136.158.7.48 (talk) 14:19, 5 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
I always had the impression that the old UAAP logo was rotated; I dunno if the same principle applies to the new one, nor do I have sources for both logos rotation. Howard the Duck (talk) 20:17, 25 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

College sports articles naming

edit

We currently have UAAP and NCAA varsity team articles, and we have a handful of basketball, volleyball and football teams articles, all have varied naming conventions. It's time to unify the naming conventions. Here are my suggestions:

Changes:

Basis: This naming convention is derived from WP:CBBALL and WP:CFB. Take note that most US college sports teams are mostly universally named regardless of gender, so the women's basketball teams of North Carolina are also the "North Carolina Tar Heels women's basketball" (not as the "North Carolina Lady Tar Heels" as you would probably expect). Most exceptions are if the men's team's nickname is specifically for use only by males. Howard the Duck (talk) 20:06, 25 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

These are the currently pending WP:RMs:
