Proposal for merging of University Square article

I nominate the article University Square, San Diego be merged with this article. Looking at the official list of neighborhoods in San Diego, University Square does not show up. In fact, it doesn't even show up in the template for "Neighborhoods of San Diego", included at the bottom of both articles. Additionally, the local signage welcomes you to "University City" when you enter what the University Square article calls "University Square". Finally, the article on University City already covers the area listed in the University Square article as University Square in terms of content, and already defines the geographic area that is called "University Square" as part of University City. So at the very least, we have a factual inconstancy. It also doesn't help that one user, Kosigrim, is responsible for the entirety of the University Square article, and the only references to "University Square" in other articles (notably in the University City article.) - Matt T. 17:21, 8 September 2007 (UTC)

Having lived in University City from 1964 to 1989, I feel it necessary to say the following. No one during that time ever referred to "University Square." The boundaries were considered to be State 52, I-5, I-805, and the railroad tracks in the canyon to the north. This included Spreckels Elementary and Marcy Elementary. Some wished that UTC and other land to the north to be considered University City since that area was previously athletic fields that were used by UC residents. Most residents at this time would be likely to sneer at being referred to as La Jolla (something akin to reverse snobbery) and many also complained at the development along the I-5 corridor that was christened "La Jolla Colony" complaining that we didn't need to be colonized. 75.60.182.25 (talk) 02:34, 30 September 2008 (UTC)

Merge & rewrite

I've merged in the University City Square article and done a major rewrite for wording and readability. BTW, University City Square is a seldom used name; I live in it but I don't think I've ever heard it called that. Karn 03:53, 27 October 2007 (UTC)

Defining the borders

How does "University City" compare to the community defined by San Diego as "University"? Where did the name University City come from, and why doesn't the City of San Diego use it?

I have no idea how it started, but speaking as someone who lived there, no one calls the neighborhood "University". Everyone refers to it as "University City" or "UC". The "Golden Triangle" nickname was also prevalent, referring to the community being bound by three freeways: 5, 805, and 52. Regardless of municipal jurisdiction, the freeways made natural mental boundaries in most people's minds (not that this stopped apartment complexes from advertising their locales is being in "East La Jolla"). I suppose there might be some history of this buried in the archives of the Union or the Tribune, or maybe someone reported on it in the University City Light local newspaper. --GentlemanGhost (talk) 23:11, 17 July 2009 (UTC)

Golden Triangle map

This map does not correspond to the definition from the City of San Diego. Significant sections of the University community lie outside the golden triangle. The image, and the concept, appears to be promotional. I think it should be deleted. Comments? Binksternet (talk) 04:15, 16 July 2009 (UTC)

Defined borders for neighborhoods?

Official cities have trouble keeping up with their borders. How do neighborhoods when adjacent places claim new membership? I don't think they can. Where is "official" definition and why isn't that footnoted? Student7 (talk) 20:18, 21 July 2009 (UTC)

Uh, San Ysidro is not near University City. I recommend UC items remain here. Also, UC items concerning 1) high speed rail (as of 3/2011) and 2) Regents Bridge (as of 12/2010) have both been removed from development consideration.
