Proper pronunciation of "Carnall"?

edit

Someone needs to put some significant research into the proper pronunciation of "Carnall" in Ella Carnall Hall. I asked someone behind the desk at the inn today how to pronounce it; I was shocked to find that they still prefer "carnal" (as in "carnal knowledge"). I was a UofA student in the 1980's (had one class in the building), and that is how they pronounced it then; but later when I visited an old family friend (now deceased) who lived in Carnall Hall when it was a women's dormitory, she insisted the correct pronunciation was "car-NALL". I can't confirm it, but I strongly believe the pronunciation shift came from its period as the Phi Gamma Delta house (1967-1977); even in my day the Fijis had an extremely rowdy reputation, and I'm sure they dished out a lot of "carnal knowledge" while they were there. I believe the pronunciation should be "car-NALL", not "carnal". --RBBrittain (talk) 03:58, 3 July 2016 (UTC)Reply
