Deleting copied and pasted unreferenced content

edit

Does anybody have any comments/concerns about the removal of unreferenced content copied and pasted from the university's website? EdwardH (talk) 19:36, 26 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

Lists of departments

edit

I reverted recent edits that added long lists of the university's departments because I feel the lists go against WP:NOTDIR, in particular:

However, Wikipedia is not a directory of everything in the universe that exists or has existed. ... Wikipedia articles are not:

  • ...
  • Simple listings without context information. Examples include, but are not limited to: listings of business alliances, clients, competitors, employees (except CEOs, supervisory directors and similar top functionaries), equipment, estates, offices, products and services, sponsors, subdivisions and tourist attractions. Information about relevant single entries with encyclopedic information should be added as sourced prose. Lists of creative works in a wider context are permitted.

Unreferenced, non-encyclopedic information

edit

This section has been removed for being non-encyclopdic in nature. This fulfills the criterion for removing the advert tag. --Sabih Omar 07:36, 3 April 2022 (UTC)

Current vice-chancellor On 3 June 2019, the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of Bangladesh appointed Shirin Akhter as the 18th VC of the university. Her official appointment as VC was confirmed on 4 November 2019, by the President, as well as the chancellor of CU, Mohammad Abdul Hamid. She is the first female VC in the history of University of Chittagong. She was born at Eid Gao in Cox's Bazar on 1 May 1956. She completed her S.S.C from Cox'sbazar Government Girls School in 1973 and H.S.C from Chittagong Government Women's College in 1975. She completed her B.A and M.A on Bengali Language and Literature from the University of Chittagong in 1978 and 1981 respectively. Shirin Akhter joined the university as a lecturer of Bangla Department in 1996 after completing her PhD from Jadavpur University in India. She has also acted as the Pro-VC of the university from 28 March 2016, to 4 November 2019.

I'd leave the advert tag there. The problem as I see it is that it is a boastful list of halls, facilities and faculties that are sourced to the university; much like you would see in a brochure to promote the university. A few things like the museum have been noted in The Daily Star, but for the most part, the rest of the long list has no claim to notability other than from the university itself. My two cents. signed, Willondon (talk) 14:23, 3 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
