"BIP" is now called "TULIP" - The University of London In Paris...

Proposed move

edit

"The University of London In Paris" (with that capitalisation - the acronym is TULIP) is the current title. I propose to move the page in line with that. Timrollpickering 00:29, 25 May 2005 (UTC)Reply

  3. I would also go with "The University of London Institute in Paris" but understand why "In" could/should be capatalised to fit in with the acronym. Philip Baird Shearer 13:49, 1 Jun 2005 (UTC)

I think the move has general acceptance but could you please clarify the exact name? The official site shows it as The University of London Institute in Paris, including the English language pages there (http://www.bip.lon.ac.uk/TranslationMABID_french.html - see the page title). violet/riga (t) 18:49, 30 May 2005 (UTC)Reply

It looks to me that the official name is the University of London Institute in Paris (according to [1] and [2]. It should therefore go there. Wherever it goes, it should not have 'The' as part of its title as university articles never do. Furthermore, the 'in' should not be capitalised, as that is the standard rule of English. user:81.174.247.96 20:29, 30 May 2005 (UCT)

I think this one should be an exception considering the name being shortened to "TULIP", thus requiring the The. violet/riga (t) 11:49, 1 Jun 2005 (UTC)

I've moved this to The University of London Institute in Paris. I think it is the most appropriate name (as used by the website) and avoids the problems of capitalising the I of "in". If there are objections to this then by all means let me know and I'll take a second look. violet/riga (t) 19:16, 8 Jun 2005 (UTC)

I've now moved this page to University of London Institute in Paris because:
  • Official University of London websites list it without the definate article [3]
  • ULIP, rather than TULIP seems to be the most common abbreviation for the Institute
  • No other university has 'the' in its Wikipedia title, even if it always uses it itself

I would like to point out as a member of staff at ULIP that TULIP has never been used as an acronym, either by staff or students...

University ratings

edit

(I'm posting this to all articles on UK universities as so far discussion hasn't really taken off on Wikipedia:WikiProject Universities.)

There needs to be a broader convention about which university rankings to include in articles. Currently it seems most pages are listing primarily those that show the institution at its best (or worst in a few cases). See Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Universities#University ratings. The paragraphs that seem to cause so much upset

edit

The way in which the English-teaching staff has been made redundant is highly dubious (the instigators of the redundancy plan have consistently compared Ulip to the Wall Street Institute!!) and management has been unable to convince both the comité d'entreprise and the auditors appointed to inspect the financial situation that there are valid reasons for making so many staff redundant.

The newly-created structure is designed solely for the benefit of a handful of British students learning French and is unlikely to provide a good environment for these students, as the uniquely bilingual and bicultural nature of the Institute has been wilfully destroyed and in effect created what a senior member of staff has referred to as a 'ghetto'. —Preceding unsigned comment added by UoL Monitoring Group (talkcontribs) 20:57, 17 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

ULIP has updated its logo. Please could the new logo replace the one currently displayed on this article? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 217.109.60.11 (talk) 14:26, 21 December 2017 (UTC)Reply
