Where do I begin
editThis article suffers from terrible POV, and just bad writing. Serious work is needed to fix it. I've deleted the most POV statements (alas most of the article), and will rewrite it soon. Note to the author Marty22181 (who is Vice Chair of the Board of Trustees), please look to other college and university articles for suggestions or go to the Education Wikiproject for guidelines. I realize you are promoting your new university, but the article still needs to be in line with other secondary education articles. Sincerely Zidel333 02:49, 17 November 2006 (UTC)
Date discrepancy in the article
editThe is a discrepancy in this article regarding the date the university's founding. The main body of the article states that the university was founded in 1988, but the data box states that it was founded in 1998. Clearly, one of these dates is most likely wrong, but they don't seem to list the info on their site. so I can't correct it at this moment. Prokopton Sunday, 2007-02-25 T 17:16 (UTC)
Merge University of Northern Virginia in Prague to this article?
edit- Discussion below was copied from Talk:University of Northern Virginia in Prague --Orlady (talk) 00:20, 24 June 2010 (UTC)
Should we merge this article to University of Northern Virginia? The article contains no material that indicates its notability separate from its parent organization, whose own notability was recently discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/University of Northern Virginia. Opinions? --Arxiloxos (talk) 17:15, 23 June 2010 (UTC)
- Yes, merger makes sense. This is a satellite campus of UNVA, and satellite campuses are typically covered in the same article as the parent university. The dearth of third-party coverage for this particular institution at all locations makes it particularly desirable to consolidate all of the content in one article.
- PS - Before today I was unaware that there was a separate article about UNVA Prague -- apparently it wasn't linked from the UNVA article. --Orlady (talk) 00:45, 24 June 2010 (UTC)
Great article
editThis article sheds a little more light on UNVA's business practices, it would be great to add it elsewhere: [1] JamaUtil (talk) 14:50, 21 March 2011 (UTC)
Accreditation revocation lawsuit
editI have come across a webpage: http://isas-ch.org/news.htm indicating that there has been a legal case between ACICS and UNVA regarding UNVA's accreditation. Case # 1:07-cv-01057 in the District Court of Eastern Virginia, UNVA suing ACICS, apparently because ACICS wanted to revoke UNVA's accreditation. The case eventually was dismissed, according to the court documents that I have accessed through PACER. With the Firefox RECAP extension, the documents I accessed were captured here: http://www.archive.org/download/gov.uscourts.vaed.223135/gov.uscourts.vaed.223135.docket.html jfeise 20:07, 4 April 2011 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jfeise (talk • contribs)
- Interesting find. Unfortunately, we can't discuss it in the article based on those sources. The isas-ch website is not an RS, while the court documents is a primary source lacking in context. Maybe a reliable secondary source will turn up. --Orlady (talk) 01:52, 5 April 2011 (UTC)
- There isn't much on the Web about the lawsuit between ACICS and UNVA. Two of the articles discussing the financing and potential takeover of Myers University mention the lawsuit in passing, but don't provide much details. See references 5 and 11. The timing of the Myers University episode, coinciding with the lawsuit against ACICS surely makes for interesting speculation. -jfeise (talk) 21:10, 23 May 2011 (UTC)
ICE Raid
editUNVA was raided by ICE today. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/43935088, and SEVP served them with a notice of intent to withdraw SEVP approval,http://www.ice.gov/sevis/unva/ It seems that somebody, presumably a UNVA official, doesn't like that being mentioned in the Wikipedia page. The person, using an IP address only, is reverting my changes. jfeise (talk) 00:56, 29 July 2011 (UTC)
The UNVA website apparently is currently down, but the Internet Archive archived a copy of the UNVA website from 2009, which showed Centreville as one of the UNVA locations: http://web.archive.org/web/20090607104549/http://www.unva.edu/locations.htm jfeise (talk) 02:04, 29 July 2011 (UTC)
SACS Application
editIn one of the many discussion threads about UNVA, somebody posted what looks to be a letter or email from then-chancellor David Lee: http://www.trackitt.com/member/bhp2301 According to that, SACS suggested that UNVA withdraws their application, citing institutional deficiencies. Unfortunately, there is no official word from SACS or UNVA on this. jfeise (talk) 16:51, 25 August 2011 (UTC)
Chancellor
editI've semi-protected the article for two weeks due to attempts to change the name of the current chancellor, which can be found in the announcement here [2] from the University's website dated August 19th. Dougweller (talk) 04:32, 8 September 2011 (UTC)

SCHEV Action on UNVA
editThe Agenda for the July 15-16, 2013 meeting of the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia is posted on their website: http://www.schev.edu/council/AgendaBookIndex.asp The minutes are not yet available, but a news report concerning UNVA's certification revocation is at http://watchdog.org/95968/university-of-northern-virginia-forced-to-close-leaving-students-in-limbo/ The background on the UNVA situation laid out in the agenda (http://www.schev.edu/schev/AgendaBooks/2013July/Agendabook0713.pdf) is very enlightening, in particular that UNVA waived its right to an appeal of a certification revocation if it doesn't receive candidate for accreditation status by June 2013 (which it didn't receive.) jfeise (talk) 23:51, 17 July 2013 (UTC)
Recent edits
editI live in Washington DC and as far as I know, there is no college called UNV. There was an University called University of Northern VIrginia which mostly awarded MBA degrees to foreign students. The university was of great help to foreign students and had Ph. D educated faculty. It was never a sham which was indicated by Indian cabinet minister. This article needs to be removed because everything it quotes is hearsay. Nothing was proved in U.S court. It randomly quotes Indian media and cabinet minister which is not relevant in U.S jurisdiction. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 103.230.104.22 (talk • contribs) 02:05, July 19, 2015
- You're welcome to your opinions but you're not welcome to remove well-sourced information from this article especially when you try to make it appear that this institution is accredited and high-quality when there is ample evidence to the contrary. ElKevbo (talk) 07:24, 19 July 2015 (UTC)
Protection
editI have fully-protected the article for 2 days to stop the revert-warring that has been going on. The parties need to come here and discuss the issue, which appears to be the wording of the lead sentence. The version I protected is similar to the version that existed before the edit warring started. All parties are reminded that edit warring is a blockable offense at Wikipedia. The only exception is vandalism, which does not seem to apply here; this appears to be a content dispute. --MelanieN (talk) 19:52, 23 May 2016 (UTC)
- @MelanieN:, our colleagues don't seem to have gotten the message and the edit warring has resumed with no attempt at discussion. Can you please protect the article for longer? Thanks! ElKevbo (talk) 13:20, 26 May 2016 (UTC)
- The edit warring resumed within minutes of the protection expiring. I have now protected it for a week. That is unusually long for full protection, but if the parties will discuss here and reach an agreement on how to settle this contention, ping me and I will remove it. --MelanieN (talk) 03:09, 27 May 2016 (UTC)
Lead wording
editAs far as I am concerned, the current wording in the lead is accurate. The institution is closed, and it was unaccredited at that time and for over 5 years before it was closed. The fact that it used to be accredited at some time in the past is explained in the accreditation section. jfeise (talk) 16:45, 27 May 2016 (UTC)
