Sustainability?

Is it just me, or is the sustainability section starting to sound like a commercial for the college? I'm not sure that that much detail is really needed. This article should tell people about the school, not be an ad trying to get them to go there.

The title "State of Utah's Ambassador of Mormon, Evan Wasik"

What does this even mean? I'm Mormon and have no clue what the article means by an "Ambassador of Mormon." --Will (talk)

Alumni concerns

Should non-alums like Ted Bundy be listed in the notable alumni section? Though he may have attended UPS, he never graduated. --Strand

Good point. I think once I dig up more than four famous alumni I'll take the people that didn't graduate off. Unfortunately, we don't seem to have many. :( --Liface 07:36, 7 December 2005 (UTC)

If Bundy's a non-alum, and enough sources show that (they do B.T.W) then there seems no good reason not to include him in that section.--Cymbelmineer (talk) 16:13, 19 October 2010 (UTC)

An alumnus/a is one that attended the university, even if they did not graduate. If the list was of graduates that would be different, but that is not the norm on Wikipedia. Thanks, Alanraywiki (talk) 16:24, 19 October 2010 (UTC)

Jeff Smith (TV personality)

This person was removed from the list of alumni with a "non-notable vandalism" edit summary. One, he is an alum, as any internet search would confirm, so it is not vandalism. Two, he is notable, especially given that two of the other alumni are redlinked. I have re-added him to the list. - BanyanTree 00:28, 14 December 2005 (UTC)

No reason you should know him, unless you watched PBS 10 years ago, but there was enough information ("Frugal Gourmet", "Jeff Smith", "University of Puget Sound") for a Google search. Sorry if my original post was a bit abrupt. - BanyanTree 02:06, 14 December 2005 (UTC)

Marion Higgins, alum

I just noticed that Marion Higgons, who died at 112 last May, is a University of Puget Sound alumni. However, I'm not sure if she is an appropriate addition to the notable alumni section. My source is this Amherst Bee Obituary. There also is a Los Angeles Times obituary, but the only copy I can find is at [1]. Okay, she's on there. It was so great not putting a "'" next to her graduating class. I also found the LA Times obituary. The LA Times obituary didn't say anything about what class she was in, so I assumed that she went straight from high school to college and did the regular 4 years at UPS. - Pingveno 20:29, 14 September 2006 (UTC)

President Phil Phibbs

There may not be very many online links to President Phill Phibss who served as the university's president before Pierce, but he is a huge figure in the university's history. He was largely responsible for turning the university from a party school in to an academic institution. Will look for sources. Nehemiah123 03:06, 20 October 2006 (UTC)

The history section needs more work in general. The Harned Hall information should be moved to the "campus" section and a small sentence write-up of the date it was dedicated left in its place. More information is needed about the early days of the University. --Liface 23:45, 20 October 2006 (UTC)

Board of Directors

I realize this would be setting a new precedent for entries on universities and colleges. But I think listing who is represented on the board of directors is quite useful as information. Does everyone else agree? Acumensch 08:34, 2 September 2007 (UTC)

Sigma Nu

Sigma Nu has been added twice as a fraternity. It was my understanding that they had their charter revoked until next semester. Is this not true? --Liface (talk) 11:41, 24 November 2007 (UTC)

Sigma Alpha Epsilon

Sigma Alpha Epsilon is listed as being a greek system that students can join but that there is no physical house. Shouldn't it be Sigma Alpha Iota? They meet in the music building and don't have a physical sorority house. I've asked around and as far as I know, there is no Sigma Alpha Epsilon. --Darthjarek (talk) 03:22, 1 February 2008 (UTC)

The SAE house used to be on the SW corner of 16th and Union across from Thompson Hall. The greek system was shut down by UPS administration in the mid 1990's I graduated in 1986. It's a shame there is no longer a greek system. We had a LOT of fun! Juniperberries (talk) 03:53, 29 June 2008 (UTC)

SPAM: Shadow Government

the following text, "Previously, several other organizations, including Sigma Nu (disbanded during 2009 rush by an illegitimate puppet regime but still very active under a shadow government), Sigma Alpha Epsilon, Kappa Sigma, Delta Delta Delta, and Kappa Kappa Gamma were represented on campus, however those chapters have all closed for a variety of reasons, except Sigma Nu." keeps being posted by an unregistered user. This constant spam is getting annoying. Either he/she can stop doing it, or we can being the adminstrative processes of blocking IP addresses or semi-protecting this article. It would be awfully nice if he/she would just stop. The problem is that the language is un-cited and not NPOV. -- 22:44, 30 July 2009 (UTC)

Marion Higgins - what class?

Marion Higgins is listed as class of 1897. She was born in 1893, so I'm sure she wasn't class of '97, at least not 1897. But since she wrote her first book at 102, I suppose it's possible she was class of 1997... --Haruo (talk) 04:43, 16 April 2012 (UTC)

Requested Edits, July 18, 2017

I'm affiliated with the university, so I cannot make edits to our page. I'm requesting that the following corrections and edits be made to fix inaccurate information:

1. In the opening description, above the Contents box: Replace the line that reads "Ties to The United Methodist Church remain, though the college is no longer officially affiliated with the church...," which is inaccurate, with the following, correct language: Founded by what is now The United Methodist Church, Puget Sound is governed today by a wholly independent board of trustees. The college maintains a relationship and affiliation with The United Methodist Church based on shared history and values held in common, including the importance of access to a high-quality education, academic freedom, social justice, environmental stewardship, and global focus.

2. In the Campus section: Delete the second and fourth paragraphs, which begin "President Ron Thomas recently initiated a campus 'Master Plan'..." and "President Thomas recently wrote a piece explaining his opinion..." Neither of these statements is accurate, as the master plan was written and initiated more than years ago.

For other editors: Note that I made the first edit about the university's relationship to the church despite several sources in the article that slightly contradict the new material. As far as I could tell, those sources were out-of-date and the source provided by our colleague is current. Excellent! Thanks so much for making the edits. I notice that the line reading "President Thomas recently wrote a piece explaining his opinion that new buildings should maintain the gothic style the university is known for" remains. This line should really be removed, as well, since the piece being referenced was part of the campus master plan, which was initiated in 2003. It was not written recently.

If there are concerns about removing the line, please edit the text to read: "As part of the campus master plan initiated in 2003, then-President Ronald R. Thomas wrote a piece explaining his opinion that new buildings should maintain the gothic style the university is known for."
