New Company Name UVR Media LLC
editThis message is for IceWelder or anyone that wishes to comment. According to this article UploadVR sold off its WorkSpace business but is still operating its media company under a new name (UVR Media LLC). This is also very apparent if you visit their website uploadvr.com. Yet the current page states that is defunct and no longer operational. To IceWelder: I have tried to modify this twice before and you have reverted. I didn't have proper reference before, until now, so I tried to do it again, but even with a reference you reverted. The provided reference states:
- "Half a year later, UploadVR laid off their LA and SF coworking staff and transitioned the spaces to new operators, The Riveter and Starfish respectively, who continued to house their VR, AR and AI focused tenants. UVR Media LLC was formed and UploadVR continued to expand its existing platform of news and content. Even though the company was ultimately able to recover and reclaim its position in the media space, the whole thing dealt them a huge blow and destroyed much of what they had created to support the early VR and AR community."
- Let's discuss your reasoning here and if we cannot come to an agreement, we can request Admins to review and decide. Jaxarnolds (talk) 08:11, 26 May 2021 (UTC)
- The UploadVR website is currently operated by UVR Media, which as the quote you provided states, was formed after the closure of the company called Upload. Outside of the website, the companies do not appear to be the same: They are in different places, under different managements, and in different business sectors. Upload, Inc. had its status forfeited some years ago, whereas UVR Media is a separate entity. Since this article is about the former company, it correctly states that it shut down, though I put down UVR Media as its successor in the infobox, which I think best describes the situation. The website's transfer is mentioned in the lead and the body, but the article as a whole is not about the website. IceWelder [✉] 08:34, 26 May 2021 (UTC)
- Well that is your interpretation. I do not agree with you. Uploadvr.com is still the same website as before under new management. When a company sells and its assets are transferred, then that means its Wiki page should be changed to a new name. I can give you dozens of such examples on companies in Wiki now, that have kept the Wiki page under the new name corpotaion. Here are a few Flickr, Moviefone, HuffPost, Tumblr, and many many more. If you still do not agree, I will figure out how to post this for other admins to view and comment on. Jaxarnolds (talk) 09:50, 26 May 2021 (UTC)
- All of these articles are about websites/services, not any particular companies. The underlying entities there may have changed but the primary topics are the services, which remain active. However, this article here is not about a website. It is about the company, which (among various other things) operated a website. This company is dead, even if the website is not. IceWelder [✉] 10:09, 26 May 2021 (UTC)
- The core of the business was always the Media. From what I know based on being a reader of their content for many years, the work spaces were just extra side businesses, possibly to bring more attention to them. According to the articles, the workspace leases were let go or transferred. There is not any mention that it was sold. The core of the business (UploadVR) the website and the media company was transferred to a new entity. In fact, it is just like the examples that I gave you. The company was not formed after the closure, the closure refers to the closure of the work spaces. Jaxarnolds (talk) 02:44, 27 May 2021 (UTC)

RFC - Should the company be changed from Defunct to Operating?
edit- The following discussion is an archived record of a request for comment. Please do not modify it. No further edits should be made to this discussion. A summary of the conclusions reached follows.
Should the UploadVR be changed from Defunct to Operating? Background: The company operated 2 businesses before: 1) A media website at uploadvr.com 2) Workspaces located in LA and SF. The company shut down it's workspaces. Leases were transferred to new entities. The company re-organized under a new name UVR MEDIA, LLC and still operates uploadvr.com. Here is a supporting article this article. It states: "Half a year later, UploadVR laid off their LA and SF coworking staff and transitioned the spaces to new operators, The Riveter and Starfish respectively, who continued to house their VR, AR and AI focused tenants. UVR Media LLC was formed and UploadVR continued to expand its existing platform of news and content. Even though the company was ultimately able to recover and reclaim its position in the media space, the whole thing dealt them a huge blow and destroyed much of what they had created to support the early VR and AR community."
- It is also quiet aparant from the website that is still operating. I am asking that the first sentence be changed so that it says "UploadVR (formerly UploadVR, Inc. and Upload Inc.) is an American virtual reality-focused technology..."
- Also, the Infobox needs to be udpated and Defunct status removed.
- Thanks.Jaxarnolds (talk) 02:56, 27 May 2021 (UTC)
- Jaxarnolds, Any reason you can't add that yourself? Do you have a conflict of interest? CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n!⚓ 03:41, 27 May 2021 (UTC)
- CaptainEek I tried to add twice, but another editor keeps reverting it, saying its a different company. Please check the TALK page. Jaxarnolds (talk) 03:54, 27 May 2021 (UTC)
- Oppose. I believe the timeline is pretty clear: Upload had various businesses (event organization, coworking spaces, the news website UploadVR, etc.) and ran out of money. The company fired all staff, shut down all properties, and dissolved. The website UploadVR was sold to another party who only then founded UVR Media (in March 2018), independent of the now-dead Upload (the company this article is about). The quote you provide clearly confirms that UVR Media was formed only then; not stemming from a rename or a restructuring.
- As I said before, a website formerly owned by a company still being active is not indicative of the company still being active. The website remains active under different ownership and management; you provided several examples where this happened with other websites above. Suggesting that the two entities are the same because they occupy the same URL would be like saying that DuckDuckGo and The Duck Corporation were the same given that the former now owns the Duck.com URL. IceWelder [✉] 07:04, 27 May 2021 (UTC)
- You cannot just assume that without a citation. The article I provided is pretty clear how it happened. It doesn't say anywhere that the company shutdown and a new company was formed after. The shut down is regarding the Workspace. I have no idea why you are disputing clear evidence. Here is what the article says: "Half a year later, UploadVR laid off their LA and SF coworking staff and transitioned the spaces to new operators, The Riveter and Starfish respectively, who continued to house their VR, AR and AI focused tenants. UVR Media LLC was formed and UploadVR continued to expand its existing platform of news and content. Even though the company was ultimately able to recover and reclaim its position in the media space, the whole thing dealt them a huge blow and destroyed much of what they had created to support the early VR and AR community." The key part here is "UploadVR continued to expand," continue would mean it never shut down. It means they are continuing the same operations. The website is still up and Google search will show you articles going back to 2016, meaning they took over the website, it was never shut down and it didn't start from zero. It also says "the company was ultimately able to recover," which means it is the same company. Many companies have been sold to new owners and their Wiki pages remained up, with the new owner info added. Examples: tumblr, Flickr, Moviefone, HuffPost. Jaxarnolds (talk) 07:56, 27 May 2021 (UTC)
- The lacking reliability of the personal blog aside, you appear to slightly misinterpret the quote you provide. It says that 1) UVR Media was newly founded, 2) UploadVR (the website/media business) was expanded, and 3) UploadVR (the website/media business) was able to "recover and reclaim its position in the media space". He never claims that UVR Media is a reformation of Upload, Inc., which is legally dead and appears in no way connected to UVR Media outside of having managed the same website. The website itself did not shut down in this transition and I never claimed that it did. Even before Upload, Inc. shut down, the "UploadVR" website/media arm operated independently within the company.
- Your examples actually perfectly exemplify such transitions. For example, Moviefone was originally run by Moviefone, Inc. before Moviefone was bought out and Moviefone, Inc. was dissolved (formally in 2003). The website is now (several acquisitions later) run by Born in Cleveland LLC, which is a completely different company from Moviefone, Inc., even if it runs the same website. If there was an article about Moviefone, Inc., it would correctly say that the company is defunct, but we only have an article about the Moviefone website, which continues to exist. In contrast, this article is not about the UploadVR website, rather one specific corporation that is now dead.
- Unless there is a reliable source that clearly says that UVR Media is a reformation of Upload, Inc., I see no reason to change the existing text, which describes the situation just fine. I will stand by my position and wait for others to comment. IceWelder [✉] 09:01, 27 May 2021 (UTC)

- Oppose, because the website being up does not mean the company is still going.PrisonerB (talk) 08:06, 27 May 2021 (UTC)
- PrisonerB: The company has been transferred to a new entity according to the article I provided. Many other companies have changed entities and kept the Wiki page under the new entity. Check CareCloud, which recently merged with MTBC, and MTBC name was changed to CareCloud. CareCloud did not have a page prior to that. In this case, we can also say "UploadVR (Formerly Upload, Inc)." Jaxarnolds (talk) 16:20, 28 May 2021 (UTC)
- PrisonerB: Check new source. Company was never shut down, coming straight from the source itself as to what happened. Only the co-working space was shut down.Jaxarnolds (talk) 18:42, 28 May 2021 (UTC)
Oppose,According to this article, the company has definitely shut down.So the website may be still operating under someone else, but the page is about the company, not the website.Deathlibrarian (talk) 09:15, 28 May 2021 (UTC)
- Deathlibrarian You are referring to a source that is copied from Wikipedia and is a Wiki sites. Wiki sites are not considered a reliable source.. The info that says the company was shut down is inaccurate. Only the Workspace was shutdown. The core of the business, being the Media business and website, was transferred to UVR Media LLC. Your vote should not be counted. If you have another reason, please revise your reason or change vote to Agree. Please note that I am also suggesting we change the page to "UploadVR" so it will be about the website, plus the company has been sold to a new entity and lot's of companies have been sold to new entities, but kept their wiki pages have also been modified as such to reflect the new owner. Check tumblr, Flickr, Moviefone, HuffPost. Also check CareCloud, which recently merged with MTBC, and MTBC name was changed to CareCloud. CareCloud did not have a page prior to that. In this case, we can also say "UploadVR (Formerly Upload, Inc)."Jaxarnolds (talk) 16:18, 28 May 2021 (UTC)

- Agree ::I have changed my vote the source - the source I was using indicated it was shut down was a poor source. These sources here and here seem to indicate the company ran into financial issues and restructured, but was still runningDeathlibrarian (talk) 00:40, 29 May 2021 (UTC)
- Comment - I have removed a Third Opinion request. An RFC takes precedence over a Third Opinion request. This RFC should be allowed to continue running. Robert McClenon (talk) 13:51, 28 May 2021 (UTC)
- OK, but care to place your opinion? Jaxarnolds (talk) 16:21, 28 May 2021 (UTC)
- Agree I am suggesting to change the page title to: "UploadVR (Formerly Upload, Inc and UploadVr, Inc)." Company is not shutdown. The core of the business was the media business and was transferred to the entity UVR Media, LLC. As another example, check CareCloud, which recently merged with MTBC, and MTBC name was changed to CareCloud, so was its Wiki page. CareCloud did not have a page prior to that. Jaxarnolds (talk) 16:43, 28 May 2021 (UTC)
- The UploadVR website was not the main business, rather an independent portion of that company. IceWelder [✉] 16:48, 28 May 2021 (UTC)
- You are just assuming that. Could you provide a source that says that? Independent doesn't mean its not the main business! Jaxarnolds (talk) 18:21, 28 May 2021 (UTC)
- Plus the Techcrunch article you refer to states "The startup’s VR-focused trade publication, UploadVR, which operates independently of the company’s other ventures, has not been affected yet, sources tell us." just another reason showing that the core of the business was never shut down. Also note that it states what was shut down are "company’s other ventures," which means the Media is the core business. Jaxarnolds (talk) 18:28, 28 May 2021 (UTC)
- and please check this.Jaxarnolds (talk) 18:38, 28 May 2021 (UTC)
- The UploadVR website was not the main business, rather an independent portion of that company. IceWelder [✉] 16:48, 28 May 2021 (UTC)
- Comment to all: please check this post [1] from the company itself. According to this, at least some parts of the news from TechCrunch is false. They state "We are getting out of the co-working business and going all-in on education and media, taking our VR training into the metaverse." hence this is confirmation from the company itself that it was never shut down. Jaxarnolds (talk) 18:33, 28 May 2021 (UTC)
- Agree from the few sources shared above, the company doesn't seem to have been shutdown. Just the workspace ventures. BristolTreeHouse (talk) 12:40, 3 June 2021 (UTC)
- Agree it appears that its current iteration is still up and running with new articles as of today. See https://uploadvr.com/about-us/ For this reason and based off the sources provided by others in this Rfc, I agree to that the company be changed from Defunct to Operating. Jurisdicta (talk) 03:35, 6 June 2021 (UTC)
- Comment Given the current consensus is AGREED to revise as stated, I am going to revise the article for now, but will leave open the discussion as I am not allowed to close it myself. Should consensus change, then article can be edited again. Jaxarnolds (talk) 20:00, 9 June 2021 (UTC)
