Comments by AbsolutDan
editI checked on www.amazon.de. All books listed are actually written by Uwe Kreisel. The claim that "Most books listed apparently written by other author" is wrong!
- My mistake on that comment - I misread "written with" as "written by". Could you provide some citations for the major newspapers' reviews? If so we can remove the notability tag. --AbsolutDan (talk) 14:39, 11 June 2006 (UTC)
Here are some reviews, most of them are NOT available online, since they date back to times when newspapers were still paper-only. The German version is followed by an English version. Also, the search box ("Schnellsuche") at http://www.rowohlt.de/sixcms/detail.php?template=start_service (Rowohlt is a major German publishing house) lists two books by Uwe Kreisel when you type in the search term "Kreisel". OK, here we go:
Book: Net Jargon
Translation: «Commendable: The authors, who have already published several English textbooks, do not limit content to technical terms but also include vocabulary that may have several meanings on the Internet…another plus of this competitively priced book is that the authors are not only experts in the English language but also understand the mentality of the Internet. Their book offers 'newbies' as well as experienced 'netheads' more than just some more new vocabulary words.»
Book: Ultimate Idioms Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, January 26, 1995:
«Wer sich auf Reisen nicht (mit schlechtem Englisch) zufriedengeben will, für den gibt es ein Buch, das mit einem ausgeklügelten System von Übungen den Weg zu englischen und amerikanischen Redewendungen ebnet. Achtzig 'ultimate idioms' und 220 weitere Floskeln haben die Herausgeber in kleinen Dialogszenen wie Ostereier versteckt, dazwischen gibt es Übungen, Vokabellisten und ein Register.»
Translation: «For those travelers who want to be able to speak more than just poor English, there is a book that helps them on the way to using English and American idioms via an ingenious system of exercises. The authors have tucked 80 'ultimate idioms' and 220 additional phrases like Easter eggs into short dialogues, mixed in with exercises, vocabulary lists and an index.»
Book: American Slang in letzter Minute
Prinz, 4/94: «Ein äußerst amüsantes und sehr, sehr lehrreiches Buch mit vielen praktischen Übungen.» Translation: «An exceedingly amusing and very, very informative book with lots of practical exercises.»
Hamburger Abendblatt, January 26/27, 1994: «... unkonventionelles, flippiges Vokabular soll zu zwanglosen Verständigung in den USA beitragen. Informationen zum Alltagsleben, Hinweise auf vulgäre oder tabuisierte Vokabeln und Bemerkungen helfen Ihnen, die schlimmsten Fettnäpfchen geschickt zu umgehen.»
Translation: «... unconventional, hip vocabulary promotes laid-back, relaxed communication in the United States. Information about everyday life and warnings about vulgar or even dangerous words or comments provide clever help for keeping your foot out of your mouth.»
CD-ROMs: Multilingua English One/Two
- Top-rated by German consumer advocacy institute "Stiftung Warentest" for content and methodology ("test" magazine 11/98)
- More than 500,000 copies sold
- Two CDs (beginners and advanced); 1200 exercises, 3 hours of audio, interactive vocabulary trainer
Die Zeit, No. 41, October 4, 1996, p. 74: «... ein Musterbeispiel sinnvoller Nutzung von Windows, bestens geeignet für Einsteiger und für alle, die ihr Englisch auffrischen wollen.» «... die Sprachlernprogramme aus der Reihe 'Multilingua' waren ein Renner von Anfang an.»
Translations: «... a shining example of the expedient use of Windows, perfectly suited for beginners and all those who want to brush up their English.» «... the language programmes in the 'Multilingua' series were hot sellers right from the beginning.»
PC-Games 3/95: «... eines der bislang am besten aufbereiteten Lernprogramme, das ohne Einschränkungen empfohlen werden kann.»
Translation: «... one of the best designed learning programmes so far, one that we can highly recommend.»
CD-Report: «... lebensnaher Einstieg in Englisch und Amerikanisch. Inside Multimedia vergab im Test die volle Punktzahl.»
Translation: «... an introduction to British and American English that’s drawn from real life. After testing the product, Inside Multimedia gave it full points.»
Book: Kulturschlüssel USA
http://gss.ua.edu/, Holger Viereck, Principal, German Supplementary School, University of Alabama: «Eine überaus unterhaltsame und sehr interessante Einführung in das Leben in der USA. Das Buch wendet sich an Reisende und Übersiedler gleichermaßen und bietet auch Vieles, was man in anderen Führern nicht findet!»
Translation: «An extremely entertaining and very interesting introduction to life in the U.S.A. The book addresses both tourists and expatriates and offers many things not found in other guide books.» —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Lookmeup (talk • contribs) 13:01, 24 June 2006 (UTC)
- Great work! Ok I'll remove the tag. Some of the above should be incorporated into the article itself, or at least proper citations for it. --AbsolutDan (talk) 14:25, 24 June 2006 (UTC)
