Fraternity
I see one fraternity for men left out, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, and one fraternity for women (no, I do not mean sorority) left out, Sigma Alpha Iota. Is there a reason these are left out? I know they are not listed on VSU's Greek organizations page, but I know them to exist. In fact, the oldest living brother of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, Dr. Lavan Robinson, once taught at VSU, still lives nearby, and is very active in the chapter there, and his wife is one of the oldest living sisters of Sigma Alpha Iota and they are both active in the SAI chapter there.
Land area needs to be updated as VSU has recently acquired new land but I could not find the statistics at the time of editing.
Much of this article sounds like an ad to attract students. It needs to be rewritten but I don't go to the school. --Mjrmtg 22:31, 14 October 2007 (UTC)
Added a controversy section detailing the highly controversial recent expulsion of a student who was denied free speech. I tried to be unbiased and fair. From the way it was previously written, it’s likely the school edits its own article. I hope they aren’t like many of the other big business out there and try to remove the facts surrounding this controversy from their page.- jbkwon. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jbkwon (talk • contribs) 14:17, 24 October 2007 (UTC)
Editing Athletics section to remove idiotic contents posted by fans stating that 1) VSU is the greatest football team in D2, and 2) they were the most awesome VSU fans ever. While I tend to agree with the first statement, it has no place on Wikipedia. --Cpmccull 18:16, 22 March 2008 (EST)
The women's dormitory shown in the photo was called Langdale Hall when I attended Valdosta State College in the mid-1980s. Georgia Hall was another women's dormitory, located just beyond Langdale Hall in the perspective of the photograph. Jenab6 (talk) 03:10, 11 September 2010 (UTC)
The photo mentioned above is of the new Georgia Hall built on the site of the old women's dorm in 2009. The new building is adjacent to the original Langdale Hall.Jadvii 1:16, 22 February 2011 (EST)
Controversy
I've tagged this as being possibly POV, as it has been edited by the guy who was expelled. This needs to be checked by someone to make sure it is neutral. SmartSE (talk) 20:04, 7 November 2010 (UTC)
- The tone of the edits make it unlikely that it is Mr. Barnes, since they read more in favor of the insitution. More likely this is someone within or close to the university acting to salvage their image and discredit Barnes at the same time. You are correct-the neutrality and factual basis of the section as it stands is dubious.HoundofBaskersville (talk) 04:17, 8 November 2010 (UTC)
- They admitted to being Mr. Barnes on the talk page of their autobio. I think the main thing to establish is whether http://thefire.org/ is a reliable source for using here, and whether it is given undue weight in the article. Personally, to the first I say no, and the second I say yes. SmartSE (talk) 11:39, 8 November 2010 (UTC)
I agree with the previous poster in that The Fire is a very biased source and that they are given too much weight in this article. The Fire's purpose is to act as a champion for students who are fighting free speech issues, and as such I do not think citing them in this article is appropriate. For what it's worth, I am a Valdosta State graduate who was attending VSU while this controversy was taken place. I had previously edited the article as I believe it was worded in a way that was leading readers to view Barnes as a hero of free speech rights, and while he may be such a hero, this is not the place for him to laud his actions. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.27.138.7 (talk) 18:46, 20 November 2010 (UTC)
Merge with Buildings at Valdosta State University
On the Buildings at Valdosta State University, it is suggest that the article be merged with this article. I do not support that merger. There is enough information for each building with references and even with pictures for the standalone article of Buildings at Valdosta State University. Merging the two would make the current article overly long. --Mjrmtg (talk) 01:50, 11 September 2012 (UTC)
