- The Oregon Eastern Railway, which runs 27 miles (43 km) from Ontario through Vale to Celatom, began in 1907 as the Malheur Valley Railway, which ran 13 miles (21 km) from Malheur Junction to Vale. Stations West: The Story of the Oregon Railways has a brief account of the early history of this line on page 96. I own a copy of this book and can cite it, if you like.
- Neal Hot Springs Geothermal Plant near Vale – The Argus Observer (Ontario, Oregon), March 2, 2013
- The 1999 edition of Geology of Oregon briefly describes the geology of the region near Vale. The Vale Fault is one of several parallel faults in eastern Oregon. The authors, Elizabeth and William Orr, say, "The Vale hot springs vicinity has a particularly high potential for geothermal resources." They were right. I own a copy of this book and can cite it if you like.
