Example

Can someone create a calculation example? That would help explain this rather complex stat. --CPAScott 18:51, 28 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Critiques of VORP?

edit

It seems like this page should include some of the criticisms of VORP (built on top of runs created, and therefore underestimates walk and home run value), and also a discussion of the problems associated with the use of replacement level as a baseline? US Patriot has some good articles talking about the these issues at his site [1]. I could try to whip up something, but I'm just learning about this stuff myself. More critique of Vorp would be nice. As any stat, it is way of measuring player value, and as such could never include intangibles, as how often a player wakes up on the right side of bed.
As far as a marginal player who helped his team win one game not being justified as being on the major league team, this is just hog wash if that player's one run was critical to the team to getting in the post-season. Or of helping a team win a post-season game, which is so often the case when superstars or stars break down and "marginal players" come to the fore.
Any statistical analysis is just that: statistics on paper: but we know that a team can look a lot better on paper than it actually plays in the field! 99.63.68.31 (talk) 16:40, 16 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

Double play not an at-bat?

edit

Since when does grounding into a double play not count as an at-bat? Anytime a batter is put out, except for sacrifices, counts as an at-bat, unless things have changed recently. Wschart (talk) 20:55, 19 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

Heck yes, a double play is ("still") an at-bat. 99.63.68.31 (talk) 16:32, 16 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

Basketball

edit

VORP is also being used in basketball. Is there a matching article for basketball, or should this article also make mention of basketball? Macoroni (talk) 09:52, 14 April 2018 (UTC)Reply
