Clean-up?
editI refer to the clean up heading. What must be done so that the heading can be removed? Dr.warhol (talk) 04:29, 6 January 2009 (UTC)
- I did not put in the clean up template, it seems to have been put in on 01:00, 17 November 2008 by Closeapple (talk | contribs), and so I'm not sure what issues were of concern at that point in time.
I see that work has occurred since the template was inserted and believe the article has been improved. For more ideas, consider the following:
- A suitable infobox is needed.
- Lead paragraph(s) should summarise the entire article such that a casual reader will learn about the band: who, when, where, what etc. Whilst some mention of their punk 'street cred' can occur there, I think the Lead section focuses too much on their problems with authority/qld police and not enough information on who was in the band, exactly when they existed, their main album(s) and their reception. According to McFarlane (ref #1) they achieved some recognition on US college radio for their single, "Buzzsaw Popstar" which is alluded to but is not exactly explained in the Lead/main body. Did any members go on to greater popularity/notability? What exactly was their music style: punk, post punk, glam punk, horror punk, dark punk or some other (garage punk: according to McFarlane)? Whichever term best describes their main output: it should be placed prominently in the Lead (and be wikilinked).
- Although it may seem repetitive, information from the Lead is to be mentioned again within the main text. So the History should tell the reader they were formed in Brisbane in 1981 (or 1982? according to McFarlane) with the original band line-up, and their instrumentation(s).
- Within the main body some short sentence paragraphs (e.g. last three paragraphs of 1981-1984 subSection) may be joined together and smoothed.
- Hugh Gulland or Hugh Galland? Some brief description e.g. According to Hugh Galland the band... becomes According to UK journalist Hugh Gulland, the band...
- While there fix up the ref for the quote: further details have been added in the reference section but not updated within the reference cite plate, i.e. Issue number 67 from winter of 2004 for the journal.
- Ref 6 also needs fixing up.
- Axle Conrad: what is his role? Not established until Personnel section.
- Who were their original songs' writers?
- Tidy up "Song titles" and "Track titles" vs Album titles and EP titles.
- Compilations section: various artists' albums are not notable as the tracks are already available on existing singles/albums. The band's compilation album 13 Tasteless Masterpieces should be retained.
- Links in the references: some appear to be either dead links or incomplete. They need fixing/removal.
Hope this helps.Shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 12:40, 27 April 2009 (UTC)
Further comments
- Its good to see an infobox started for this article, however it should be placed above the Lead section. Additionally:
- The URL is only for the band's Official website (if it exists), not for link(s) to YouTube or other.
- Non-standard information e.g. Mainstream popularity = Virtually nil should not be included: it can not be read by casual readers.
- Standard information which should be included are:
| Label = | Associated_acts = | Past_members =
- The article already mentions some of these: the Label values are shortened for the infobox e.g. Schlock not Schlock Records (full name is used in main text); the Associated acts are those with some of same members including soloists; Past members are only named here (no time spans or instruments) or provide an internal link to the Personnel subsection within the article.
- You may need a WP:Hat note (placed above the infobox) to direct casual readers to the film that has a similar name. e.g. {{otheruses4|the Australian band|the film of the same name|The Vampire Lovers}}
- Lead section has been re-worked but some loss of meaning and reference(s) has occurred. The very first sentence should start with something like:
- The Vampire Lovers, also known as Vampyre Lovers or Vampire Lovers were a Brisbane garage punk group formed in 1982
- Shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 11:38, 15 June 2009 (UTC)
- Why do sentences end with [7] or [1], instead of actual links to references? Why has the McFarlane reference been deleted from the Lead/main text and then a non-linked [7] provided? Also why has the Bibliography with McFarlane's encyclopedia been signed? NOTE: articles are not signed, but talk pages are signed.
- Names of members is confusing, I understand that, at the time, many punk/post-punks performed under nicknames/handles e.g. Axle a.k.a. Axe Babe is presumably Axle Conrad? So try something like Axle "Axe Babe" Conrad (wikilinked if he has his own article) for the first time he's mentioned in the Lead/main text and Conrad thereafter, likewise Matt "Nasty" Le Noury and Le Noury thereafter. Full name and nickname can be given again in the personnel listing section with timespans and instrumentation.
- Some of the Lead/main text reads awkwardly or like a personal blog. Try to set a neutral tone unless quoting reliable source(s). e.g.
were essentially a non-conventional punk group, because of their varied tempos and styles but their trashy glam appearances, spiky dyed hair and their unusually twisted dark lyrics generically fitted in as an early version of horror punk.
- If uncredited/unreferenced, the above reads like original research or one person's opinion/blog. It should be sourced or toned down. If it belongs to Hugh Gulland then this is not clear from the paragraph.
- While talking about Gulland, the reference at the end of the sentence is currently coded as {{cite journal |last = Gulland |first = Hugh Issue number 67 from winter of 2004 }} |title = Vampire Lovers |journal = Bucketfull Of Brains|location=[[London]] }} It is missing the reference parameters and has other format problems, i.e. <ref>{{cite journal |last = Gulland |first = Hugh | issue=67 |date=winter 2004 |title = Vampire Lovers |journal = Bucketfull of Brains|location=[[London]] }}</ref>
- There are still formatting problems with "Single title" and "Track title" versus Album title, EP title and Mini-album title.
- Second last paragraph of Lead, presents readability problems with discussion of band origin unclear. Consider the reliability of the sources: I'd use McFarlane unless a prominent band member has a contemporary interview that states otherwise. Similar problems occur in main text when discussing the formation of the band in Brisbane.
Have fun.Shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 02:08, 16 June 2009 (UTC)

Vampire Lovers (Australian band) → Vampire Lovers (band) — band renowned worldwide.
Dr.warhol (talk) 21:21, 6 March 2010 (UTC)
- Support. Makes sense. There's no other articles on bands with the name "Vampire Lovers" from other countries other than Australia, so no need to be overly specific with the qualifier in parentheses, (band) is good enough. -- Ϫ 22:55, 6 March 2010 (UTC)
- Support/Modification. Consider The Vampire Lovers (band) instead? As per start of lead sentence, McFarlane reference and here at Spencer's Who's Who in Australian Rock ([on-line] version) which can be used as another general reference. Still support move even if 'The' not included.shaidar cuebiyar ( talk | contribs ) 03:36, 7 March 2010 (UTC)

request edit
editI respectfully request the removal the following sentence, "In the mid-1980s The Vampire Lovers gained international recognition when Jello Biafra of US hardcore punk outfit Dead Kennedys promoted "Buzzsaw Popstar" on college radio stations", from the Vampire Lovers (band) page below the Legacy heading. This information is inaccurate. It was caused by a misunderstanding in a conversation between myself and our group's manager after we reformed. I initially told him that the Vampire Lovers were being played on some University College radio stations in the U.S. In the same conversation I told him that Jello Biafra had written a letter to me. The following week our manager released a press release of the group stating that Jello had promoted the band on the U.S. College circuit. Unfortunate as it was, various media ran with it. It was too late to stop it. The bird had flown the coop, so to speak, but I would like this unfortunate statement deleted from The Vampire Lovers page please. Sincerely, Axe Babe, former vocalist for The Vampire Lovers
