I changed the hyphen to a dash, since nobody used the hyphenated name and the house is named for the two families who long owned it, even though they joined by marriage. I removed the claim "The name Van Riper-Hopper came from the surname given to Mary Ann and Andrew's children, Uriah and Mary (Mame) Van Riper-Hopper" after obtaining and checking the cited source The Van Riper–Hopper Hous by Jackson. It says two of the six children, the first and the sixth, were "the only kin with the Van Riper Hopper surname" (without hyphen). From other sources such as find-a-grave, and comparing to sibling names, it seems clear that "Van Riper" was used as a middle name for Uriah (and Mary is nowhere to be found). And the book does not say this is where the house got its name. It seems more logical that it's from the two family names than from one (non-existent) hyphenated surname. The town website even sets it with a dash (sometimes). Dicklyon (talk) 03:47, 2 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
