VeohTV is malware?
editThere is discussion breeding on the internet pertaining to Veoh's ability to delete downloaded files without warning. There's also a section that says they collect credit card information.
From the Privacy Statement:
Veoh privacy statement: "We may collect personally identifiable information from you when you seek access to certain portions of the Veoh Service, publish or download content, and/or register for our services. This information may include, but is not limited to, your name, physical and e-mail addresses, phone and/or fax numbers, Internet address, type of computer and credit card or other payment information, as well as your preferences and usage patterns.

- ONE of the reasons why VTV is garbage. I don't know if we can still do this on VTV, but you may be able to transfer the files away from it, to prevent deletion. But my files were deleted before I could do this.

- why is this shit in the discussion page and not in the wiki itself? this should be brought to the immediate attention of everyone viewing this.
That's why when you DLed something, you should have immediately moved it to a different folder when the DL was complete.

Windows Defender reports malware in the VEOH installation file :
Summary Adware:Win32/OpenCandy is an adware program that may be bundled with certain third-party software installation programs. Some versions of this program may send user-specific information, including a unique machine code, operating system information, locale (country), and certain other information to a remote server without obtaining adequate user consent. These versions are detected by Microsoft’s anti-malware products. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 77.11.12.189 (talk) 20:02, 13 March 2011 (UTC)
My wife just installed Veoh, and it started installing DriverScanner 2011, which caused her alarm and she called me over to look. She insists it didn't ask first. Apparently that's the kind of crap OpenCandy does. Uninstalled DriverScanner immediately, and uninstalled Veoh. It uninstalls in two parts and begs you to not uninstall each time. May not technically be malware, but it's too close for comfort. We're sticking to Netflix and Hulu, they don't pull this kind of bullshit. Beware. 64.83.196.13 (talk) 23:31, 23 October 2011 (UTC)
Update: Veoh left a Chrome extension installed that had to be uninstalled within chrome. The extension apparently changed her chrome preferences to open to some Veoh branded search page instead of "open tabs from last time" causing my wife to lose all her tabs. Now THAT is crossing the line into spyware. Fuck Veoh, seriously. 64.83.196.13 (talk) 19:31, 27 October 2011 (UTC)
Update #2: Veoh is still spreading diferent adware and spyware with its installed. the 2012 version contains (as per Eset Nod #4) "a variant of Win32/toolbar.zugo" Why there is noone adding this to the main page? --187.146.235.159 (talk) 07:16, 21 January 2012 (UTC)
Why no article?
editCan someone please explain why this article is not allowed? There are articles for lots of other computer programs, even controversial ones such as Kazaa so I don't understand why not Veoh. I would find an informative article useful right now. --Ishel99 00:27, 31 January 2007 (UTC)
- This essentially appeared as an advertisement.
- Wikipedia articles must be verifiable in reliable published sources.
I agree I think that there should be some kind of article about Veoh. It is a very popular website, and I think there should at least be some kind of page about it. I am going to work over this weekend on drafting a comprehensive page about Veoh, and I will post it to the talk section. --Cooleymd 01:38, 3 February 2007 (UTC)
Please someone make an article about Veoh. It is a very good site for vewing various videos, most of all animation. Everybody loves it! —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 84.24.200.185 (talk • contribs) 23:23, 12 Feb 2007 (UTC)

- Yup. Youtube is the invention of the year, as is clearly verifiable from reliable sources such as, oh, say, TIME magazine. If an article can be written about Veoh with verifiable, reliable sources, I'm sure it'll be kept. --Iamunknown 03:10, 18 February 2007 (UTC)
I came here for an unbiased overview of their downloadable player. The deletion recommendation needs to be removed, people want info. 71.231.13.21 04:53, 18 February 2007 (UTC)

Looks like all your talk about the great Wikipedia not allowing a Veoh article was entirely POV and wrong. I'm sitting here in 2009 looking at it and wondering why you guys in 2007 couldn't dream of this article existing. And since this article does exist, this talk section shouldn't, or at least it should be archived. Promontoriumispromontorium (talk) 05:30, 23 June 2009 (UTC)
Plug ins
editCan someone explain what plug-ins are needed to access this website? Whenever their content is posted on TV Links, it doesn't work. Nqnpipnr 21:39, 10 August 2007 (UTC)
- Agree, the article needs more information on the technology behind Veoh.
Legality
editIs there any information on how this evades copyright violations? There are a few site users who remove videos after being told they're violating copyrights, but why are some videos (of the same series, for example) allowed when others aren't?
---There's a form thing you have to fill out when you upload something. People probably admit to not owning the rights on the form, state who does, etc. and Veoh allows it.
Reads like an ad for Veoh
editThe wiki entry reads like an add for Veoh and could use some major reworking.70.231.255.77 11:42, 29 August 2007 (UTC)
- Indeed, it still reads like adds for this (crappy) site. Guess it pays to advertise on wikipedia. --IceHunter (talk) 00:56, 7 February 2008 (UTC)
"Controversy"
editThis section looks like nothing more than a list of peoples' personal greviances. No evidence is given of any notable controversy, and more than half of it is various complaints about the 5 minute limitation. It would be better to factually describe the consequences of this limitation in the main article, without making it sound like a rant. – Smyth\talk 10:40, 14 October 2007 (UTC)
It can be rewriten but should stay.Claycrow 17:48, 18 October 2007 (UTC)
No, it shouldn't. It's not even accurate. 72.130.138.117 04:31, 21 October 2007 (UTC)
- Is the 5-minute rule still in effect? --68.161.190.195 (talk) 20:54, 13 December 2007 (UTC)
No, just everyone is too lazy to change it, I don't even edit on Wikipedia hardly ever. --Claycrow (talk) 14:10, 14 December 2007 (UTC)
I've cut most of this and toned it down significantly, because it read like an unsourced rant. However even the part I've left is inadequately sourced; a random complainer on forums.veoh.com is not a reliable source. If someone has reliable sources documenting a controversy over this issue, it should be used as a reference instead; otherwise this section should probably be removed. --Delirium (talk) 21:55, 26 December 2007 (UTC)
I can't get veoh tv to work when I try to login it just resets the information I put in and I have to keep putting in my username and password over and over how can I fix this? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Xsleuth (talk • contribs) 00:47, 13 January 2008 (UTC)
- I removed it completely, it's all uncited speculation, looks like it's been here for a while looking at the date stamp on the comments above. Alastairward (talk) 22:45, 11 January 2009 (UTC)
as per January 2012....the 5 minute limit is still there, they want you to install the VEOH player. --187.146.235.159 (talk) 07:21, 21 January 2012 (UTC)
original format vs. flash
editThe article says "As of February 2008, Veoh changed back to high resolution downloads for those using veoh TV Beta," but that's just not true, well, OK, I'm not 100% sure, but what I'm seeing sure looks like .flv, I have not tried to "save" the videos just "play" them on VeohTV (in either case something is being saved on my computer), but what I'm getting looks like flv, not as crappy as YouTube though. Lysis rationale (talk) 08:50, 10 March 2008 (UTC)
- Indeed, the "saved" videos are of the original format. Lysis rationale (talk) 19:19, 10 March 2008 (UTC)
Anime
editMany of the people who visit Veoh watch anime episodes. If you visit sites such as http://www.watchanimenow.com/, then you'll notice that most of the videos are veoh videos. Is this worth mentioning in the article? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.58.96.135 (talk) 02:31, 12 March 2008 (UTC)

- Unsuprisingly, most of these are so-called "developing countries", but Denmark and Luxembourg are among the richest places on Earth, besting USA or UK in per capita income. How did they get on this Veoh-block list, unless the company has no interest in paying customers? 91.83.20.238 (talk) 11:42, 1 June 2008 (UTC)

Veoh block possible tech reason explained
editIt appears Veoh started to block due to bandwidht problems. A website called "lemonscripts" developed and hosts a Java applet which allows you to download the original video (not the degraded flash-flv transcript) from Veoh, without having to use the P2P-type Veoh TV utility. The unofficial method takes about 27 minutes to download a 20 min/200MB video via lemonscripts, it uses a CPU-intensive method to fake P2P-like activity. It works very well and countless people use it.
Probably everybody outside of the anglo-saxon world willl be blocked eventually. I think many in the third world and europe will be much pissed off and there are many hackers among them, they may even retaliate against Veoh for the discrimination with a network flood. 91.83.20.238 (talk) 11:34, 1 June 2008 (UTC)
- What a load of bull... There are other ways to block leechers. And since not every country on the list is a "third world country". And even if they were - this is just plain unfair. Very similar to dvd regions and all similar "features" that are designed to milk more profit. Its just that here I don't see no way this helps their profits, seems more like to backslash. --Neikius (talk) 21:44, 14 July 2008 (UTC)

Very POV
editThis article does nothing but brings up criticism of Veoh TV, so we should work to make it much more neutral than it is now. For this, everybody should help. Some by editting, some others by not editting.--96.232.61.201 (talk) 01:34, 15 July 2008 (UTC) I just put a POV tag.
- Whatever, just let Veoh die. There is apparently a lot to criticize and nothing special to tell. --193.77.254.198 (talk) 10:09, 16 July 2008 (UTC)

- Do us a favor and shut up. This article is neutral enough, it's just that there are more reasons to criticize Veoh than to praise it. So yeah, let Veoh die alone. 190.139.43.178 (talk) 01:29, 10 September 2008 (UTC)

Veoh and Mixin
editI noticed that in many (but not all) cases Veoh now shows just a 5 minute preview and links to Mixin for the full video. Example: http://www.veoh.com/watch/e42374SpCjXdDH I suppose these two websites belong together and this should be reflected in the article. -- 77.184.170.209 (talk) 14:45, 19 May 2012 (UTC)
Those f**king horrible embedded ads
editStraight from their forum messageboard:
My major concern is the advertisements. Dear heavens. I will be watching a video, fullscreen and whatnot, been watching for 15 minutes, and then suddenly I hear a terribly loud advertisement just start playing. So I pause the video, minimize it, and look over to the right and see the ad window, screaming at me to buy this product. I then have to mute my computer because its one of those ads that don't have any sort of volume control or pause button. So I wait until its over and wait for the video after the ad to load and then pause it and continue my video. 15 minutes later, history repeats itself. Seriously, I'm not going to buy any Dove products for at least the next months out of sheer fury toward that event. I dunno if it's the people that own the ads or if it's you guys who maybe programmed something incorrectly, but it's just awful, and I would like to suggest that you maybe change that.
Myself and the person above CANNOT be the only people having these problems with Veoh. Basically the sole administrator (yes, this site has just one, and he's a condescending asshole) says you have to go off-site and get download something to deal with it, rather than to simple change the way advertisments work on the site. The invasive ads deserve some kind of mention in the article. Period. --98.246.156.76 (talk) 21:06, 15 March 2013 (UTC)
- It would be easiest to include this information if it was written in a news article somewhere, whether online or not, so that we have a source that meets this wiki's standards. As for how to solve the problem, you can consider making a personal blacklist of websites and including Veoh in it. Or add/agree with complaints on http://www.mywot.com/en/scorecard/veoh.com. --Sbluen (talk) 17:14, 15 May 2013 (UTC)
