Vergatario vs Vergatorio
editIt looks like more Spanish-language sources are using "Vergatario." But my main source for this article, guardian.co.uk, uses "Vergatorio." If it turns out that "Vergatario" is correct, then the article should be moved. I haven't yet had a chance to watch the video to hear how Comandante Hugo pronounces it. - It looks like it is being spelled "Vergatario" on official Venezuelan government websites (e.g. [1]). I will have the article moved. Mike R (talk) 15:15, 12 May 2009 (UTC)
- You might also like to watch this: [2] as it puts the price at 30BsF rather than USD15 (which I guess the papers were quoting as an equivalent). Yomanganitalk 09:39, 13 May 2009 (UTC)
- The grauniad uses 2 different spellings in 2 paragraphs!
It is perhaps the world's cheapest mobile phone. It is the latest offering from Hugo Chavez's socialist revolution. And its name is derived from a slang word for penis. Behold the Vergatorio.
Venezuela's president launched the handset on his TV show with a Mother's Day call to his mum and predicted it would conquer all rivals. "This telephone will be the biggest seller not only in Venezuela but the world," he said. "Whoever doesn't have a Vergatario is nothing," he joked.

removed unsourced
editThe articled said that Chavez was renowned for using vulgar language, but provided no sourcing for this. I removed as per BLP, really doesn't add anything to the subject of this article, and can be seen as a cheap shot against Chavez.--Cerejota (talk) 18:26, 4 August 2009 (UTC)
- Regardless the fact that Chavez is foulmouthed or not, the word "Vergatario" is a bad word. Verga in spanish would be similar to the words wang, dong or dick. But the term "Vergatario" should be close to the phrase "X... is The Shit" (if you want to be vulgar) or "Top notch" (if you want to use more friendly words)Josevillegascarmona (talk) 03:50, 5 December 2009 (UTC)javc
