The article refers also ECSS-E-10-02A giving the impression, that ESA (European Space Agency) ist following the rules/requirements given there. This is not really
the case the last two major manned space programs SPACELAB and COLUMBUS used the definitions shown in this article developped in close cooperation with NASA whereas the ECSS Standards are strongly influenced by the French CNES, which is not clearly differentiating between Qualification (of design) and Acceptance (of delivered items).
