Hope you didn't mind my stomping all over your article. Here's what I see needs doing:

When was the "original configuration"? When did that end (and why?)
Any details on the remaking?
Unclear whether the statue was there before 2002 or not (was it an empty square with the one statue, was the statue moved years before and reinstated?)
Which parallel avenues?
Don't like my "simple empty area" phrase that much, or "its bounding avenues" for that matter
Possibly Canadians may prefer the statue be listed first?
Linking "town square" may not be appropriate, as it fits one of that page's weaker definitions, but "important square" seemed too POV
If this article eventually gets big enough, probably the separate reconstruction/redesign projects should be grouped into a section about them (since there are three mentioned here, and it looks like I've kinda lost that connection with the train station entrance)
