ITunes
editThe statement in regards to the label's back peddling with ITunes although controversial does not seem to be accurate. The reference is an article about the label pulling their music from emusic not Itunes in which there is no mention of the label not working with Itunes. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Joeybombstyle (talk • contribs) 21:58, 26 February 2008 (UTC)
Ska Bands
editConsidering they have so many of the major third wave ska bands signed, why is there no mention of the genre, Streetlight Manifesto, Catch 22, ect. are definitely not pop punk. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 208.199.17.53 (talk) 01:40, 20 September 2007 (UTC)
Victory porn music
editMaybe something could be added in here regarding the incidents where Victory sold music to porn companies. The only incident I know offhand is the film "The Legacy" using thier music and of course Boy Sets Fire citing that as one of many reasons they left Victoty.--Skeev 15:58, 28 June 2006 (UTC)
- Umm.....could someone possibly rewrite this WITH information on Victory Records and not some esoteric rant about their validity? There is literally only one sentence relating to information about Victory. - xBrendanx, 7/6/06
- Nevermind, I'm deleting everything but raw, neutral information. Hopefully someone will build it up from there. - xBrendanx, 7/7/06
- The label is seen by many as one of the largest and most important labels in underground punk music. Not sure how raw or neutral that really is. While it did play a role in the hardcore scene in the 90's it has diminished quite a bit in it's importance since then. It also was never seen as the "most important" in the punk scene has a whole either, maybe important to the hardcore kids, but not punk as a whole.
- I'd replace with something more along the lines of, "While Victory Records popularity has waned in recent years, they have been considered an integral part of the burgeoning hardcore scene of the mid to late 90's"
Thursday Restriction
editRegardless, Victory has also been accused of restricting a band greatly during their stint on the label. This was brought up by the band Thursday, who was forced to leave the label for Island Def Jam in 2002. While wanting to stay on an independent record label, they were unable to, since there was a legal clause in their contract stating that they must sign to a major label if they are to leave.
Is this even true? I've heard this both cited and disbuted by people, but never seen any proof. I am far from a fan of victory records, but this article seems biased, with no proof. SnaX 15:13, 9 August 2006 (UTC)
This signing letter by thursday was published by punknews.org, see the sighting on the Thursday page.
Correction made
editHawthorne Heights' allegation towards Victory was that Brummel encouraged the label's street teams to go to record stores and move Ne-Yo's records from the front display sections -- not steal them. Correction made. --Paulshrug 17:54, 11 August 2006 (UTC)
Stubbed
editI have stubbed the article. There are no sources and multiple errors, and the label has contacted us to complain. The article may be rebuilt with due attention to sources. The Uninvited Co., Inc. 01:13, 11 September 2006 (UTC)
Why can't the label edit the article itself? It does need more accurate sourcing but the contensious points in the article are all fleshed out more fully on their respective artist's pages for example Thursday and hawthorne_heights. In the case of the later I would think hearsay should be espessially avoided since it's an ongoing trial.
Did you really need to take that much out? It used to be like 6 paragraphs and now it's like 1 or 2 sentences.
- See WP:LIVING. We don't encourage entities to edit their own articles, see WP:AUTO. I don't know a thing about Victory Records and am involved only because Victory has complained. If you want to re-add content, you can, but you have to have sources for everything that's re-added. The Uninvited Co., Inc. 13:29, 16 September 2006 (UTC)
Are we allowed to complain to Victory in retort for being such a shockingly rubbish label? I think there ought to be at least a mention of Ramsey Dean's "The Horror". It is not disputed that he was the VP of Victory, and likewise many of the things he wrote about have been confirmed by other independent sources. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.136.195.142 (talk) 16:22, 14 February 2008 (UTC)
Integrity
editCan anyone find any good info about the beef between Integrity and Victory records? I know that if you search on the bridge 9 message boards, Dwid Hellion has said numerous times that he would rather fans download their material that was released on Victory illegally than put any more money in Brummel's pocket. I know there is some info on Integ's myspace, but I'm not sure how to cite it.
Victory Records is Terrible!
- For anyone who's curious, there actually is some information about this here: http://www.clevescene.com/2005-04-27/news/the-godfather-of-cleveland-hardcore/2 P4k 02:35, 26 September 2007 (UTC)
Unsourced statement at another article
editAnybody knowledgeable on Victory want to take a quick look at a statement at Still Movement Records for accuracy/verifiability...is there any connection at all? I'm not going to spend too much more time finding a source if it's just a joke entry, especially since there are only a dozen results for the label itself. Thanks. History Censorship
editTony Brummel himself appears to have edited out a big piece of history regarding the treatment of Hawthorne Heights and the behind the scenes business at Victory Records.
Click on history and look at the August 13th, 2007 change and then the one before it about the negative press. This stuff shouldn't be censored, especially by people from within the company.

Tony Brummel removed everything under "the Horror" on August 13th http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Victory_Records&oldid=150949994
What a scumbag
What a dumb piece of sh... Crap label anyway...
- Jaysun
- The Hawthorne Heights stuff was restored and "The Horror" was kind of dodgy in terms of Wikipedia's policies anyway.P4k 04:26, 28 September 2007 (UTC)
Homosexuality
editIf anyone can find sources proving that this label is involved in homosexuality and that it's founder gave the Hawthorne Heights guitarist AIDS, it would be much appreciated. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.117.117.183 (talk) 18:20, 26 November 2007 (UTC)
Hatebreed
editI once read an interview with Hatebreed singer Jamey Jasta, who said that Victory still owes the band money from their record sales etc.Maybe someone knows more about it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 77.5.209.207 (talk) 11:39, 13 December 2007 (UTC)
Thursday & Victory Records
editThe article seems to intimate that Thursday returned to Victory Records last year on a full contract. I am 99% sure that this is untrue. In many interview, Thursday stated that it was for the release of "Kill the House Lights" which would of been unable to be released without Victory's backing (they own the rights to a lot of the songs). Thursday are as yet unsigned as far as I am aware. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.144.66.210 (talk) 18:26, 7 February 2008 (UTC)
The other Victory Records
editIn the early '90s, there was another label called Victory Records, a joint venture of PolyGram and JVC (Victory), founded by Phil Carson, formerly of Atlantic Records and Warner Music UK and current manager of Asia. Prog legends Yes and ELP were on the label. There should be a separate article for that label. I just don't have the time or energy to do it myself. I'm sure it's just a coincidence that there's this leading independent label with the same name.Sposato (talk) 01:59, 18 February 2008 (UTC)
Independence
editSony BMG is the parent company of Victory, so it is not an independent label. If someone could post a convincing argument for its identity as an independent label as opposed to a branch of a holding company, that would be great. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 130.49.16.50 (talk) 00:52, 19 March 2008 (UTC)
Hawthorne Heights is only listed as having one gold album on the RIAA, so I am deleting all information pointing otherwise. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.102.170.29 (talk) 23:42, 16 May 2010 (UTC)
Standby Records
edithttp://www.standbyrecords.net/2008/5/21/victory-to-distribute-standby-records might be worth a mention. Evaunit♥666♥ 04:40, 12 July 2008 (UTC)
Sanitising of Content
editI've noticed that there seems to be a gradual trend within this page of deleting negative information about the label. Despite evidence that most, if not all of these assertions are accurate, they gradually diminish. I've just reverted one change which added "which was not the case" to every single allegation without offering any evidence to the contrary. Clearly the label itself, or people within its street teams are instilling bias within Wikipedia. Might it be worth considering locking edits by unregistered users? Then at least we can track those making changes to ensure their neutrality. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 212.139.98.251 (talk) 17:15, 4 November 2008 (UTC)
I've just removed another one which was blatantly partial and severely lacking in objectivity which essentially blamed all the criticism of the label on the 'personal issues' of the artists in question. 92.2.103.22 (talk) 16:37, 30 January 2015 (UTC)
otep
editshouldn't it be noted that they also do nu metal bands cause i just learned that the band otep just got sigened to victory, an they're a nu metal band —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.226.79.244 (talk) 21:14, 19 July 2009 (UTC)
