Merge with constituent albums
editThe articles corresponding with the constituent albums of this series do not present sufficient information to stand individually, as they contain no citations and consist primarily of track listings. They should be merged into this article. Neelix (talk) 18:50, 31 October 2008 (UTC)
- Oppose. Don't be misled by the similarity of the titles. Each of the four albums -- View from the Vault, Volume One, View from the Vault, Volume Two, View from the Vault, Volume Three, and View from the Vault, Volume Four -- are separate and distinct Grateful Dead albums, which were released in 2000, 2001, 2002, and 2003, respectively. Each of these four albums meets the Wikipedia:Notability#General notability guideline, since each album "has received significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject." The articles very much do present sufficient information to stand individually, and they contain citations that both provide substantial reference material and establish the notability of the albums. The citations I am referring to are the professional album reviews found in the infobox of each article. (Volume Two also has a References section with one additional citation.) The articles do not in fact consist primarily of track listings. Besides having the standard features of other album articles, such as full Credits sections, each article contains substantial prose about its album -- currently 90 words for Volume One, 119 words for Volume Two, 127 words for Volume Three, and 199 words for Volume Four. But, even if the articles were much shorter, by the standards of Wikipedia, they still should be left separate, because each is about a notable album, and each can be expanded further in the future. — Mudwater (Talk) 22:25, 31 October 2008 (UTC)
It's been three weeks and no one else has said anything about this. I'm planning on waiting a few more days and then taking down the merge proposal templates. — Mudwater (Talk) 21:29, 21 November 2008 (UTC)
- I have taken down the merge proposal. — Mudwater (Talk) 02:07, 28 November 2008 (UTC)
Albums in the series
editOne could argue that the View from the Vault series includes all of the Grateful Dead albums that were released on both CD and DVD, either separately or together, whether or not they have the phrase "View from the Vault" in the title. The series would then comprise these titles:
- View from the Vault, Volume One (actual title: View from the Vault)
- View from the Vault, Volume Two (actual title: View from the Vault II)
- View from the Vault, Volume Three (actual title: View from the Vault III)
- View from the Vault, Volume Four (actual title: View from the Vault IV)
- The Closing of Winterland
- Truckin' Up to Buffalo
- Rocking the Cradle: Egypt 1978
- Crimson White & Indigo
I would take that position, and I propose adding those last four titles to this article. "P.S." Slightly off topic, one thing's for sure. Each of the View from the Vault titles is a notable album in its own right, and each of those articles should be kept separate -- see above. — Mudwater (Talk) 00:41, 29 August 2012 (UTC)
- Such an expansion of this article should only take place if there is a reliable source referring to those albums as View from the Vault albums or as part of the same series as the albums with View from the Vault in the title. Neelix (talk) 01:27, 15 September 2012 (UTC)
