Charitable contributions.
editWhen saying things like "Vijay Eswaran has made significant personal donations to individuals and charities", we need reliable sources. Using a handful of specific examples of charitable acts by his foundation to support broad generalizations about Vijay Eswaran's personal philanthropy is not acceptable. In addition, the "Asian Strategy & Leadership Institute" appears to be an arm of the QI Group. When people get get awards from their own companies, this is not notable in a Wikipedia article. Any awards or accolades need to be presented in a neutral tone, and with secondary sources. Press releases republished without comment are not secondary. Grayfell (talk) 21:16, 14 February 2013 (UTC)
Patronymic name
editI am no expert in Malaysian names by any means, but from that article and both WP:SUR and WP:PATRONYMIC I get the impression that this article should generally refer to him as Vijay rather than Eswaran. I'm not sure, but I think I may have mistakenly changed it in the past. I'm not confident of the correct usage, which is why I haven't changed it back. Right now the article refers to him by full name every time. I guess this is safer, but looks very awkward to me. Grayfell (talk) 23:12, 3 November 2013 (UTC)
Awards and accolades
editThe notability of the awards are justified on the following facts;
- The subject received the MBA award from International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed.[1] Any award received from a Government minister has its own recognition. The awarding body has a proper website section for awards and participation of Dr. Mahathir Mohamad justify it has some standing in Malaysia.
- The subject was honoured with the New Global Indian (NGI) award for philanthropy and business excellence at the Global Indian Business Meet (GIBM) 2012 in New York.[2] Global Indian Business Meet (GIBM) has its standing because it was to be addressed by Indian President Pranab Mukherjee. GIBM - 2013 was addressed by Anand Sharma, Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, India; Peter Robinson, First Minister of Northern Ireland; Sanjiv Goenka, Chairman, RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group; Gregory Barker, Minister of State for Energy and Climate Change, United Kingdom; Rahul Bajaj, Chairman, Bajaj Auto, India; Farooq Abdullah, Union Minister of New and Renewable Energy, India.[3]
Wikipedia Editors can't judge of their reputation because those awards or the awarding institutions don't have a page on Wikipedia.Hillcountries (talk) 05:52, 18 November 2013 (UTC)
- Oh goodness. The first link is a press-release republished without comment. That the award itself has a website is totally irrelevant. Why on Earth would that matter? Please review WP:RS. The Facebook link is likewise useless to us in building an article. That a business meeting had prestigious speakers is also totally irrelevant.
- We can't judge the awards because they don't have articles- Exactly right. If you are going to list off awards, they should either have articles themselves, or have descriptions of the award's significance. Not just the granting institution, but the award. The current state of the article includes neither. If you would like to establish that the awards are significant, do so with reliable sources that are independent of the subject. How many awards are given, what is the criteria, who is eligible, how is the award financed. These are the kinds of questions that should be addressed before adding to the article. As it stands this puff is merely promoting the subject without actually providing enough context to be meaningful. It is also very important to give due weight to the awards. This is not the page for lengthy explanations of what the awards are and who gives them out. This is about Vijay Eswaran the businessman, not the New Global Indian (NGI) award for philanthropy and business excellence. Wikipedia is not a platform for promotion. Our company is a Hongkong based Reputed company holding offices in 54 more countries including Malaysia .
In these few countries we have some issues on our company by some opponent companies. But we are handling it in legally according to their country ethics .
In these most of the cases we have cleared it and get a clean chit judicially . Most of the cases has been falsely framed against us And we are undergoing it legally and we are ready to solve all the issues as per the court directions.
But some offenders are spoiling our company name and Myself very badly before court verdict , when the cases where in court the Newspapers , Bloggers etc have no rights to spread false allegations against us.
Indian judiciary has also directed not to spread any rumours against our company to the Media but since they are spreading purposefully to affect our genuine business .
Also i was Chairman for so many companies having a very good profile in the society but these rumours are affecting my personality personally .
So I request you to remove my entire profile or Controversies in my profile as soon as possible in wikipedia.

Controversies
Further information: Qnet Controversies
In March 2006 Vijay Eswaran, and his business partners Joseph Bismark, Tagumpay Kintanar and Donna Marie Imson were accused of allegedly defrauding two Filipinos of more than $100,000 in a Gold Quest pyramid scheme. They were charged before the Quezon City Regional Trial Court of syndicated estafa, which was a non-bailable offence on the basis of a criminal complaint. In April 2006 Judge Bayani Vargas ordered the issuance of arrest warrants against the four accused. The Department of Justice, Office of the City Prosecutor later dropped the charges following a Jakarata courts dismissal of the extradition request from the National Bureau of Investigation and citing it to be a civil liability and not a criminal case.[24][25] In May 2007[26] a dispute in Manila, Philippines filed by two former partners of the original founding team escalated to an alleged ‘offence’ leading to an Interpol Red alert listing the four directors. Interpol put out a warrant for their arrest and the case was fought out substantially in the courts of Manila and Jakarta. The Goldquest executives had asked the Philippines Supreme Court to stop the Quezeon City Regional Court trial pending resolution of a petition for review.[27] After three weeks, Indonesian courts released Vijay Eswaran; a Manila court dismissed the charge soon afterward.[28]
A 2003 charge against Gold Quest for its fraudulent activities in Chennai, India, reached the Supreme Court, which in 2014 allowed the quashing of the proceedings.[29] The Supreme Court appointed a one-man commission, a retired Judge of the Madras High Court, to settle all legitimate claims of around 200 depositors.[30]
In 2009 money circulation charges were brought against Gold Quest by Tamil Nadu police. The Chennai Enforcement Directorate, attached Gold Quest properties worth 150 crore to the case under Prevention of Money Laundering Act.[31][32][33] Though there is a Red Corner notice pending against Eswaran, he is yet to be arrested and brought to India.[34] In an interview about the charges, Vijay Eswaran has denied any wrongdoing, and dismissed the claims as being indicative of corruption and poor journalistic standards in India. Qnet has also stated that Vijay Eswaran is neither director, nor shareholder of Qnet's Indian franchise(Vihaan Direct Selling Pvt. Ltd.).[35]
In August 2013, Times of India reported that Vijay Eswaran was being investigated by the Economic Offences wing in regards to Qnet, which he founded.[36] The Economic Offences Wing issued lookout notice against Eswaran and a few others, after he failed to appear before the authorities for questioning.[37][38] Police have frozen six of Qnet's bank accounts in the country.[39] QNet has refuted the allegations fully in stating that its operations are legal, compliant and transparent.[40]
In 2014 the Enforcement Directorate in 2014 has alleged money laundering against Vijay Eswaran and his company Qnet.[41] This allegation has been refuted by both the company QNet and Vijay Eswaran.[42][35][43]
In 2016, after 3 years of probe, the Economic Offences Wing of the Mumbai Police issues lookout notices against 30 people in connection with the Qnet Scam.[44] As founder of Qnet, Vijay Eswaran was featured as the key accused in the case.[45]
In 2017 Justice DP Surana of the Maharashtra Protection of Interest of Depositors (MPID) court said that prima facie the business of Qnet in India, was not legal.[46] However the Supreme Court granted conditional bail to Michael Ferreira and Malcolm Nozer Desai on the condition they do not leave India, shareholders of Vihaan Direct Selling Pvt Ltd, a franchise of Qnet in India. Both were directed to cooperate with the investigations. The court also called a halt on all legal proceedings related to the 19 first information reports filed by the police in 2013.[47][48]
In February 2018 Qnet was prosecuted for fraud and forgery at trial court of Labe, Somalia.[49] Later that year spokesperson of the Bharatiya Janta Party called out Ex-Chief Minister of Karnataka, Siddaramaiah, for meeting with Vijay Eswaran, whom he referred to as a "declared absconder", during the World Economic Forum in China, in 2013.[50][51][52]
