Violet gland in dogs?

edit

Do dogs ever have this gland? I can find no reference to it, but there are very few wolf features which never occur in dogs.--Richard New Forest 18:29, 7 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Some further research... It seems it's normally called the supracaudal gland, and although some sources ([1]) say dogs don't have it, it is clear from others ([2], [3]) that they do. I wonder if some dogs don't have it – is it perhaps an adult wolf feature which does not develop in more neotenous dog breeds? --Richard New Forest (talk) 22:57, 9 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

The last sentence is incorrect (that the gland is sometimes known as stud tail). Stud tail is the name of a condition in which the gland becomes swollen or blocked. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.141.176.61 (talk) 14:07, 14 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
