Controversy

I feel that the entire Controversy section needs to outright go, but I am loathe to outright delete such a huge section.

There's no speculation needed, actually. A filecard on the 1998 Cobra Trooper's package, written by fan but an official release, says they are the bottom of the barrel and have to work their way up to become Vipers. That says the Cobra Trooper is lower position than Vipers. Even though it was fan written, this information was repeated on Cobra trooper filecards in 2004 and 2005, it seems Hasbro is fine with it. That probably makes it official whether fans like it or not. Also, it's worth noting that the 2004 Viper shares the same file card information as later releases Neo-Vipers (who were originally said to be an elite bio-enhanced unit, then changed to troops who just wear high-tech suits), which may have a been a goof or laziness on someone's part. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.88.32.194 (talk) 19:33, 9 October 2007 (UTC)

OK I added the fact that Hasbro has officially made the distinction between Viper and Trooper with the 1998 Trooper filecard on up. I do feel that this section should remain however as this is a question that many fans are constantly asking. 24.178.211.155 15:58, 13 October 2007 (UTC)

Controversy is too strong a word. And since the whole Viper/Trooper thing is not that big a deal, I would opt more for "confusion". What does everyone think? --Destron Commander 10:35, 24 October 2007 (UTC)

Thoughts

I don't see a problem with it. If you visit any G.I. Joe related message board people are constantly asking what the difference is between the Troopers and the Vipers. People visit Wikipedia to educate themselves so by stating that some of the "facts" they may be hearing are in reality just "fan speculation" makes sense. Night Stalkers
