Where does the "Operation Moongate" subtitle come from? It's not on the cover art. --Mika1h (talk) 10:34, 8 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

That's the cover to the Sega Saturn port of the game. The original is the arcade version. The article should not be oriented to the watered-down port but the arcade original. It's proper name is Virtual-On: Operation Moongate I'm not quite sure how to explain it... we just need to get some more knowledgeable Virtual-On fans on this. There's probably no need to post anything here, since going by his contribs page VR.Moose's brief period of editing WP ended 8 years ago, but I've moved the article back to its correct title, Virtual On: Cyber Troopers. To answer Moose's comments, first of all, making the article favor any one version of the game because you think another version is "watered-down" is not following WP:NPOV. Second, if a title is known only to a select group of fans, then it is obviously neither the "proper name" nor the WP:COMMONNAME.--Martin IIIa (talk) 14:40, 5 February 2018 (UTC)Reply
A year later but....is it actually 'Virtual On: Cyber Troopers' or 'Cyber Troopers Virtual On' - which is how the rest of the series is named. ♫ Melodia Chaconne ♫ (talk) 14:05, 4 February 2019 (UTC)Reply
So far as I can tell the title is indeed "Virtual On: Cyber Troopers". Looking at the cover art I can see how someone might argue that "Virtual On" is the subtitle since it appears to the right, but I feel the fact that it is placed above "Cyber Troopers" and rendered in a font that is (no exaggeration) five times as big makes it clear that "Cyber Troopers" is the subtitle. Also, all the reviews I've seen in reliable sources refer to the game as either "Virtual On: Cyber Troopers" or just "Virtual On".--Martin IIIa (talk) 18:39, 2 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

Dreamcastgamer1999 - I hate to keep reverting you, but wikis and most YouTube videos don't qualify as reliable sources either; see WP: USERG. I don't think we need to cover NetLink's current functionality in the articles for individual games, anyway, since it's already mentioned in the lead for Sega NetLink.--Martin IIIa (talk) 02:04, 1 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

Port Clarification

edit

Could someone please double-check whether or not the game this article is talking about, which should be Virtual On: Cyber Troopers (sometimes subtitled Operation Moongate), actually had ports released on Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network? Because as far as I can tell, the game actually ported to these platforms was its sequel, Cyber Troopers Virtual-On Oratorio Tangram. If this is the case, I suggest moving over the relevant port information to the correct game's article, as it currently appears to be sort of a stub. @ElTipejoLoco: The cited source says both games were being released for those platforms.--Martin IIIa (talk) 03:02, 14 December 2019 (UTC)Reply
Scratch that; the source I was looking at was referring to the PlayStation 4 release. I found a source for the Live Arcade/Network release, though.--Martin IIIa (talk) 03:13, 14 December 2019 (UTC)Reply
@Martin IIIa: The Polygon article? The video announcement it links to does show footage from the game this article is for, but an announcement alone doesn't mean a overseas release manifested. Judging from scouring the Xbox Live Marketplace and Achievement hunting sites such as XboxAchievements and TrueAchievements, it looks like Virtual On: Cyber Troopers for the Xbox 360 was ultimately only released in Japan. Checking the PlayStation Store and Trophy hunting websites appears to yield the same conclusion on the PlayStation 3 version's side, though linking to it will automatically boot users signed into accounts from non-compatible regions.ElTipejoLoco (talk) 00:18, 25 February 2020 (UTC)Reply
First of all, very sorry for the late reply. "an announcement alone doesn't mean a overseas release manifested" - If this were a general game release, I'd agree, but this is an emulated re-release, so development was complete, and localization was complete. The only thing I can think of that might unexpectedly cancel a release of this sort is a drop in the popularity of the target platform, and that didn't happen. I appreciate you providing those links, but I'm afraid I have little familiarity with the sites in question and I can't seem to figure out how you determined from them that the game was released only in Japan. The XboxAchievements and TrueAchievements ones even give a U.S. release date (though the XboxAchievements one at least is clearly wrong since it predates the announcement by two years). If by chance you're still around (your contributions page shows no edits in over three years), could you explain for me? Martin IIIa (talk) 00:32, 18 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
