Notability

Deletion on grounds of notability seems precipitous and spurious. The school itself is notable historically, as is the musical composer. Objective criteria for evaluating the song's artistic merit do not exist, but the song is an important element of school tradition. Carmen Bristoliense, Carmen Etonense and other school hymns have their own pages, and for many centuries the Royal High School occupied a more central position in Scottish education than did Eton College or Bristol Grammar in England, or other schools and universities with comparable entries from other countries.

Superficially a merger may not seem objectionable at this stage; however a separate page was created with the foreknowledge that once more detailed sections covering nine hundred years of the school’s history have been added to the school’s main article, the length of the latter is likely to become unmanageable, at which point a separate entry for the anthem may have to be restored.

The published secondary sources currently available to this contributor are William Steven, The History of the High School of Edinburgh (1849), which the composition postdates, and John Murray, A History of the Royal High School (1997), which offers scant coverage of the song because that exists elsewhere. More details about the song’s composition and its historical use are available in James J. Trotter, The Royal High School (1911), William C. A. Ross, The Royal High School (1934) and J. B. It's hard to do that when the people who do continue to remove notablity tags without fixing the article. Though as you seem to have local experience, I'll leave the editing to you.
